I hear you...dude is a beast.

I think it was still the right gamble by Monti - everyone had Houston picking in the top 5 again the next year with a rookie QB.

Potentially getting two top 5 ish picks would have been amazing.

Stroud ended up being that guy and we lost the gamble.
In hindsight, it was clearly the wrong gamble. While we can't use hindsight, it wasn't hindsight when a lot of posters were drilling him for passing on Anderson. I found it a mistake then and still find it a mistake. Less of a total disaster mistake, thankfully, because PJJ isn't a bad OT, but still a mistake.

You never know where the next great player will be selected. But I know this is just your off-season shtick. You'll be back here in September optimistic as ever, just like the rest of us.
Ugh this old and faulty argument again? You’re right, except you’re minimizing your chance to land that guy the more teams that get to select before you. And you have to have a guy with superior talent recognition skills the further down the draft you’re picking. I think we’ve established that doesn’t seem to be monti at present.

I'm not minimizing anything. Does it matter where we pick? We pick 4th and pick wrong. We pick 16th we again we pick wrong, what's the difference? And I stand by my point that no one knows where the next great pick will come. And by the way it wasn't an argument it was an opinion.

If you truly believe this then you’re stating that no GM is actually better at drafting than any other and it’s all luck, right? Essentially no one can identify talent so it doesn’t matter where someone drafts. Got it. Quite the opinion.

Yeah, there were plenty of people here who didn't like that Anderson trade. Very tough to call that hindsight. Most people were willing to go into "wait and see" mode, but after seeing Robinson this year, that early skepticism certainly seems valid.
