I don't think the Cards go after Peterson. I think they go for a running back in the 1st and defense the rest of the draft. After the draft they will make Justin Houston an offer and forfeit the 1st round picks from 2016 and 2017. That way they keep this year's pick. There are cuts that can be made to give salary cap room this year and with the cap increases each year it can be covered. 2 #1 picks for Houston is cheap especially when you consider that you won't have to pay those players salaries either.

I agree with you that they don't pursue AP and I have doubts they were really serious contenders for him anyway. I don't think they go RB in the first when there are good RBs that can fill the need they are looking for to compliment Ellington. I don't see SK giving up 2 first round picks when I think he wants to build this team through the draft for long term success while signing vets to one year deals to fill in gaps/needs until they get to a point where that is not so critical to the success of the team.

I don't see them using the one year contracts as a long term solution to fill voids in the team.

If they were going to go after Houston, that would be the way to do it - after the draft and forfeit future picks.

However, we don't have that much more room than KC right now, so it would be difficult to structure a deal that they couldn't match unless we restructure a bunch more guys, and that would create some awful cap hell in a couple years.

I take the shot, if KC matchs they match, nothing lost. I think the cap will increase substantially every year and will naturally take care of some of the cap problems. This guy is a proven player. You still have the rest of the draft picks each year.

I am not opposed to signing Justin Houston but why would you rather give up the 2016 and 2017 1st round picks? Why not give up this year and next year's pick? The front office thinks this is our window so in a best case scenario we will be picking in the late 20s/early 30s for the next 2 years anyways.

Great point. Plus, KC is going to match any offer for JH. It's a moot point.

I would wait because if ARZ lands a stud in Round 1 and Houston they could be even better next year and pick even lower the next couple of years. Not sure about the depth in next year's draft but if ARZ needs to get into Round 1 next year they can trade up using their other picks.

I think they are going to load up on offensive skill players this year
