Just some thoughts as I drink my sorrows away with a pack of Bud Light...

1.) The oline is going to need some upgrading over the offseason, plain and simple. We've got some players on there but weeding out of duds will definitely be on the agenda.

2.) I just don't know about McCown anymore. I've always had faith that he'll come around but he just doesn't have any pocket presence whatsoever. Granted, the Bills had some beasts on the Dline today but it seems like whenever Josh had time to throw, he would just keep back pedaling himself into the outside rush. There were at least 4-5 times when all he had to do was stop and move up in the pocket to make a composed throw. But he's just scared back there. Sort of reminds me of the pilot at the beginning of Top Gun who gets all out of whack when he's locked on by a MiG. That's Josh... All nutso behind the line and has no idea what to do. And when Josh did throw the ball, he hardly ever even came close to hitting his target. I'm thinking we may see John Navarre at some point this season to see what he has. I would like to see it...

3.) Anquan looked good today even though he had only a handful of balls thrown to him today.

4.) Emmitt did his thing... Hambrick did well too. I'd like to see Croom get a few carries a game just to add his speed in there at some point.

5.) The defense played okay. You can't put that kind of pressure on them though. Having to start on Defense already in their half of the field is killer. We had terrible, terrible field position all day.

6.) Special teams were terrible... Absolutely terrible. Enough said...

Overall... They deserved to lose to this Bills team. They got beat in all facets of the game and I'm not surprised. We're a good team but we still have a loooong way to go before we ever think playoffs. Next year is a possiblity but 2006 is more likely. Denny needs more time to get his personel in here.

Time to crack open another Bud...

They need to permently put him in a shotgun. He is slow backing up and generally backs up to far and does not know how to use a pocket when one develops. For a guy who is supposed to be fast I sure am n ot seeing it. I just see no way this guy is our QB or any teams starting QB in the NFL. He is beyond being a rookie. Big Ben is a rookie. Josh is about to be a free agent. Cannot imagine many takers on him. We are putting ourselves in a bad position again. We have no idea about our QB's behind Josh. Today would have been a perfect time to get a look at our backups as we were out of the game early. I cannot imagine why Green refuses to play our backups. I think he is just stubborn as he announced Josh as our starter and hope very early and now is unwilling to recognize he may have made a mistake. Denny does not seem like one who accepts responsibility for mistakes. It is someone elses fault. Not my idea of a leader.

My top three awards for todays fiasco:

1) O-line absolutley sucks. These guys are so inconsistent its amazing. I want Big to become the dominant player he is capable of being, but I just dont know anymore. Stepanovich cannot handle big DT's. Just an awful, pathetic performance today.

2) McCown is not the answer for the long term for this team. He may play not to lose a game, but he cannot be the guyt that will win a game for you. He doesnt strike fear into anyone in the NFL. The McCown experiment will end this year.

3) Special teams is god awful. Should have shown the door for this guy as well. Our punt returner, Karl Willaims does nothing but catch the ball and falls to the ground. I,ve never see a guy take so many steps in one place, and not go forward. His return average must be less than 8 yards, Pathetic.

And finally, FREDDIE JONES is the softest player in the NFL. This guy looks the part physically, but a butterfly could take him down. This is the first guy I send packing after the season. This guy is so over rated. Goodbye Mr. Jones.

Major changes need to happen with this team. New infusion of talent on the O-line, New Qb in 2005, and a TE that can do more than look the part. I truly beleive Green will get the job done, but if anyone thought the Cards were as good as some thought, you were sorely mistaken.

On defense, we are close to being a dam good unit. Send Bryant to the arena league, and find a true run stuffing DT. Not a word about Pace, KVB, Mckinnon today. I few minor tweaks should be enough.

Did I say Jones is pathetic.

Putting him in a shotgun formation would be a great idea. So don't expect it to happen any time soon...

Boy, Big Ben would look great in a Card's uni right about now, huh? Would that mean I'd be willing to lose Fitz? I don't know... But at this point, it's a possibilty. Fitz had no bearing on the game today. But then again, he can't throw the ball to himself.

I don't think Green isn't willing to take responsibilty for mistakes. I just think that he still has hopes for a successful season with the possibilty of the playoffs. After todays game, I think you can definitely count that out. I believe that Green is the epitomy of a leader... But a leader who makes his players accountable for their performances. The man knows what he's doing, he just needs more than 7 games to prove it.

More and more people are starting to get the picture.

The one thing that really stood out for me in this game was how talented Boldin is. How can he be so much better than all the first round selections at WR over the last few years? Comes back from a knee injury after 6 weeks and hardly looks rusty at all. Amazing guy.

Way to go Anquan.

Agreed... He's just an absolute stud and he's got the passion to play this game. Did you see how pumped he was to be out there? I love the guy...

He's going to be a hall of famer, mark my words.

McCown is definately not the answer long term. The guy does not appear to have the confidence or presence on the field to be a QB in this league. Question is when will Green realize it and see what he has with King or Navarre so he can make the necessary decisions after the season ends.

My thoughts on the game....peeeeeeuuuuuuwwwwwwww that stunk. Special teams dug a hole we could never get out of. IMO the wind was so gusty it adversly affected the passing game. It seemed to let up some toward the very end of the game but too little too late.

This game featured a jailbreak rush all day long, the Oline stunk. We will never be able to see what Josh truly has until he has more than .5 second to drop back and throw. With a pass rush like that I wonder why we didnt run some screens and dump offs to slow it down, or put Josh in shotgun, or roll him out.

Oh well, it's water under the bridge, Miami is up next.

If you just look at the stats, it was a close game except for penalties and kick returns.

Special teams is killing this team.

Every game seems to be the same for our offense. The opposing D lines guys up way outside and just blow to the QB. I guess they figure our guys are too fat to be able to back up quick enough to stop it. Or they have seen that our QB drops are deep enough for that type rush. Even though it works against us I don't see the Cards doing the same thing on D.

Then when we try to run inside the wide splits either their LB's fill the hole before we can get anything going or we get a nice gain.

You would think that at this point in the season the Cards staff would have figured out some way to exploit it but they haven't. Which I guess would lead to the assumption that we don't have the players to do so.

I've never seen anything in McCown but was willing to try and see what Green sees in him...I still don't see anything. I said before, he just looks l...he's a back-up...he's had some time now to at least make improvements, I don't see it.

The whole tream all around was bad...just plain bad.

I hardly think that 7 games into the season, you can say that Green is responsible for (at least 100%) terrible special teams play, terrible o-line play and terrible QB play. The man needs PLAYERS. And our Oline just doesn't have them. Our special teams just don't have them. And, yes, judging from 7 performances this season, I don't think that McCown has what it takes to be a starter in this league. He's had one draft and one off season to bring his "type" of players in. Yes, Josh was his call and you know what? Maybe he did blow it by choosing Fitz over Big Ben. But I tell you what, if and when we do get a quality QB in here next season (Drew Brees??), he'll sure have a nice set of WR's to toss to. Hopefully we'll have upgraded the line too.

It's absolutely obvious that Denny Green has had a positive effect on this team and organization. If he's not our coach this season, we may be 0-7 right now. But instead, we're 2-5 with the possiblity that we really should be at least 4-3. With a stud defense in the making, I'd say we're on the right track.

Nope, no spin here. What in the world did you expect?? To challenge for the Super Bowl? Please... Look at the garbage we had last year from the coaching staff on down. Other than a handful of players, Green had nothing to work with. Now tell me, at what point last year were we "in" 86% of our games, where we had chances to win?? Hardly ever... But this year? We've been in every single one of our games, excluding yesterdays debacle. We've been close and had chances to win in ALL our games. Are you going to tell me that's not an improvement? And are you going to tell me that, as an organization, we're not going in the right direction?? I surely hope not...
