Nash will miss game vs. Jazz

Suns guard Steve Nash, who left Wednesday night’s game in the third quarter because of the flu, is not with the team in Utah and won’t play when the Suns and Jazz meet at 8:30 p.m.

Nash went to a Phoenix hospital last night for a midnight IV. Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson said he would instruct Nash to stay home today, although Nelson said Nash was doing better.

Elsewhere:

Grant Hill checked out of a Phoenix hospital last night after a successful appendectomy. He’s expected to miss two to three weeks. Shawn Marion, who fell hard on his right shoulder and elbow during last night’s game, is with the team in Utah and will be evaluated later today.

Rookie D.J. Strawberry, who had not been scheduled to join the team until Friday’s practice in Phoenix, is flying in to Salt Lake today instead, giving the Suns 10 players for tonight if Marion is available.

Well Banks will get even more playing time now that nash is out lets see how he defends against williams when he gets some playing time. Plus its good that nash is out one game he needs some rest.

Almost certain it would be Barbosa, but I like Barbosa coming off of the bench.

I would love for Tuck and DJ to get some play but I bet D'Antoni has already told Pike to be ready. I also hope Nash sits out for as long as he needs, not just to get over the flu but also to let the rest of his nagging injuries heal some. This team needs to learn to play without him.

I want to see one of our rookies get some time. If there EVER was an opportunity it will be tonight.

I want to win the game. Don't care who plays or does not play.

And I have no faith in Banks running the offense. The only offense he runs is his own. If he's hot, shoot it lots. that's the best thing he could do for us.

Diaw should run the offense, he's the best passer left on the roster. Hopefully Banks will get some productive minutes as a shooter. The problem is who will get the ball to amare where AND when he needs it.

The Suns will almost certainly lose without Nash or Hill. If Marion is at all hurt, they may as well sit him too. For that matter, D'Antoni should just write the game off and treat it as a chance to give Banks a chance to show what he's got, practice team defense (which might actually be better without Nash), and otherwise rest his players.

What we'll probably get, though, will be increased minutes for all of the other starters in a hopeless quest to get a win, combined with minutes from bench guys that we'll never use in the playoffs.

Such joy in being a fan! So much optimism.

"A hopeless quest to get a win." Never heard that one before in all my 55 years. Not as a player of many sports. Not as a fan. Never hear a coach or of a coach ever thinking that way.

You clearly mean we should just give up.

stargazer, you disgust me.

He must have been playing with Amare's kids...

I had a worry that he wouldn't play tonight. He landed pretty damn hard on his shoulder, almost to point of breaking it. Now all the Marion haters will get there wish....and see how poorly our defense will be because he isn't out there.

For the Suns first game at Utah last year, Nash was out with back spasms. The Suns blew a 16 point 4th quarter lead and lost in OT by 3. Marion led the team in scoring with 35 points.

Don't see exactly the same situation this time. With Nash and Grant Hill both out, and possibly Marion, on the back end of a travelling back-to-back, I think the team will get tired towards the end (like they did last year) and Utah will close it out in the 4th.
