The Buffalo Bills made a big move by signing former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer to a three-year, $36 million deal at the start of free agency.
However, one national analyst didn't like something in particular about this signing.
ESPN analyst Ben Solak was not impressed by the cost of the signing for Buffalo. In his latest piece published for ESPN, Solak evaluated every NFL team's offseason moves.
Solak highlighted how Palmer will fill the void left by Mack Hollins, who signed a two-year deal with the New England Patriots at the start of the free agency period.
The analyst stated he's "not sure he's going to elevate it much -- certainly not for double the price tag." Solak sees Palmer as a good complementary piece. "He is a good dirty work receiver and should be considered a glue guy on a healthy offense." However, Solak adds, "But if he [Palmer] was a truly dangerous pass catcher, he would have already broken out in Los Angeles."
Solak recognized, though, that this is a nitpicky criticism for the Bills offseason. He concludes, "Still, this is a small complaint in an otherwise great class."
Hollins led the Bills with five touchdown receptions last season. He caught 31 passes for 378 receiving yards and was a core contributor on special teams for Buffalo.
In four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Palmer reeled in 182 passes for 2,287 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions.
On the flip side, Solak did praise Buffalo's aggressiveness at the start of free agency, highlighting that Buffalo's re-signing of Gregory Rousseau, Khalil Shakir, and Terrel Bernard was effective in getting ahead of the open market.
