And he's doing it so he doesn't have to go back to Josh and hear all the second guessing on that.
I can buy everything except this. DG had to know he was going to be criticized no matter what he does. I seriously doubt his sole or even main reason for going to Navarre was just to avoid being second guessed. I think IN HIS MIND he really thinks John gives him the best chance to win. I see DG as a believe in saying things to not only convince others, but himself as well.

John Navarre gives us the best chance to win. There I said it. I'm convinced :)

I didn't mean in the media, I meant on the team.

Remember when you name a new starter you have to sell your team on it. Now in the first case apparently a lot of the guys WANTED King, so there's not a whole lot of sell job involved.

But now King stinks for 2 weeks you go back to the guy he replaced, that's a big sell job to convince the whole team Josh really was better. The guys who were tired of Josh are mad, and the guys who wanted to keep Josh are saying I told you so. Now they're all more confused than mad. :)

All I can say is somewhere John York is smiling and telling Bill Walsh "I told you so".

Russ, I disagree that San Francisco is the more winnable game. Yes Detroit has a much better record but I think that we match up better with them. They lack talent on offense which has been the downfall of Harrington (in my opinion) but have a ok defense. They lack a good TE so we are free to send our linebackers more. San Francisco will be more of a shoot out, and so there would be mroe pressure for Navarre to put up points.

Secondly, I think there is significantly less pressure on Navarre playing in Detroit than at home for his first game. On the road we are historically a poor team, so if we lose, we have lost in a way that history says we should. At home, were teams are supposed to be more succesful, we are expected to beat a poor team. If Navarre started slow, the home town booing might be a hinderance.

Lastly, I believe that Navarre will come into Detroit to prove something to all those Michigan fans that booed him in college, not scarred and intimidated. He should be playing with a gigantic chip on his shoulder which usually brings out the best in competitors.

Ha... I doubt that looking at the current state of the 49ers. It still sucks that they are not 0-11.

I just dont see why DG would need to sell anything to the players. Why? because they should all know by now that no job is safe.

I'm not an Erickson fan at all but York didn't hire Green because he didn't trust him, not because he thought Erickson was a better coach.

The stuff Green is doing here is precisely what York wanted to avoid, so I'm sure he's glad he didn't hire him, and in fact bay area sports radio are talking about that precise thing since we announced Navarre is starting.
