Looks like there might be a few of us out there, so I tought I would start a tread. I play a franchise with a few of my freinds. We start by doing a draft of are teams from scratch. This is what my team looks like. (Last Years Champs  )

C- Yao
PF- Dirk
SF- Marion
SG- V.Carter
PG- Kidd (sorry only available free agent PG last year)

Bench
Amare (ROY last year)
JJ(plays mostly at point)
Q.Rich (not doing well)
J. Jeffires
T.Parker (all hype  )
J.Parker(could be this years ROY)
W.Williams (expiring contrat)
??? Some crapy rookie

I love this game. I have been playing NBA games for years now. I was very upset becouse I normaly play NBA Live but this years game sucked.

I take a different approach when I play NBA 2k3 franchise mode. I keep Marbury, Marion & Amare on the team and I trade the rest for young talent with small contracts.

I love this game. With a few slider adjustments on the all-star level it's basically a clone of the real NBA. Ive even had a 35% shooting night (ack!) where as in NBA Live I had never shot less than 60%.

But anyways, I have had this game since the day it was released and am currently in season 2. I played all of season 1 with the exact roster the suns have now and went 43-39. Oh, and I played about 70 or so of those games. This season I have played every single game so far.

I did some tweaking this year (but nothing unrealistic. Im a purist!) I shipped Googs, Voskuhl and a #1 to the Clippers for Olawankandi. Sounds like a lot really, but Googs would be my #3 PF and C so there was no point. Voskuhl would see about 5-10 minutes. And I was sure that my #1 wouldnt be top 15. So I think Kandi was worth a lower 1st round pick.

Other than that I drafed a 6'11" 280 Center with some crazy offensive rebounding skills but no post game whatsoever. In the second round I picked up a PG who shouldnt even be in the NBDL. I wont cut him though, because again..I like to "keep it real." Probably in the offseason.) Also I signed Jim Jackson to backup Marion with the exception. He's not playing or doing very much though.

The biggest move I have probably made was a "had to do it" move. Mid season Marbury went down with a dislocated shoulder. I shipped Joe Johnson and Dan Langhi for Bobby Jackson. JJ was shooting 34% for the year and Langhi never saw the end of the bench.

BTW, Amare is averaging 18.3ppg and 12.7rpg.

Oh, and for you guys who arent seeing any injuries...just crank up the injury slider a notch or two. One notch gave me 6 injuries all year. (82 games)

I've been an NBA live person, but NOW FINALLY! in Australia 2k3 is being released. It was supposed to be today so am hyped. I hear though it's been delayed :( It sounds like a sweet game.

Live 2003 sucked. I played 2002 and sure its kinda bad but I'm so used to it, it's all I know.

Can't wait to get my hands on 2K3.

Michael, 2k3 came out on Monday.

Great game. Though I started a season and Penny got injured in the 1st qtr... Now thats Realism!

I'm still getting used to the game play but it's looks to be an awesome game, especially the off court options.

Billy, if you want total realism I suggest you play on all-star and make a few slider changes. I got these from a thread over at operationsports.com (you'll probably tweak 'em a little to get them just right for your style.) and the game is so realistic that its almost scary:

All-star
12 minute quarters
Normal speed

Before I list them I will list the problems with the game on the default settings
1)FG% too high
2)Not enough fouls
3)Too many points in the paint
Those are the big three, there are other little quirks I have solved with these sliders which will be explained below:

Here they are:

All following clicks from left:

Gameplay sliders: HOME (click one less for Away to simulate home court advantage)
Close Shot % +13
Med Shot % +22
3 PT % +21

the above settings keep FG% down and the close setting being exceptionally low seem to keep the points in paint in check, however with the mid and 3pt slider slightly above the default, one can still hit a med to long range jump shot within a realistic percentage.

Dunk home& Away +22
Layup home & away +24
Dunk/Layup vs Shot +39 (1 click from all the way right)
AI Close +12 (keeps cpu points in paint down)
AI Med +28 (makes you defend the CPU jump shot)
AI 3 PT +26 (makes CPU dangerous anywhere on floor)

The above settings keep the AI challenging but not dominant if you play decent defense you will be rewarded with a close intense game. You have to have your head in the game at all times.

AI Dunk/Layup +21 (one click right of default) -This allows the CPU to score in a variety of ways close to the basket. Opens up a ton of scnearios in the paint.

Charge/Block Fouls +19 (one less of default)
Pushing +40 (all the way right)
Shooting fouls +40
Reaching fouls +20 default (so human can attempt steals and not get rung up with a foul every time)

with these foul settings i get 15-25 attempts per game at the stripe. To draw fouls though you must pump fake or drive to the hoop and be aggressive)

THE FOLLOWING SLIDERS ONLY HAVE 20 CLICKS
Steal +3 (keeps the steals at a realistic rate, way too many steals at default)
Block +10 (middle)
Speed +11
Ball Handling +9 (I love when the cPU tries to challenge me one on one with a crossover; this setting is challenging but not everyone can crossover on this setting; I wouldn't go much higher)

Dunk +11 (keep this slider in check too so Stockton does start performing windmill jams)

Off Awareness +13 (this setting allows me to have an honest chance of stopping the computer without unrealistic things happening; I find a game challenging when I can stop the computer giving it all I have on defense....I can't understand people making game unrealistic hard...this slider may need to be adjusted upwards a couple clicks if you are an expert NBA2k3 player or you want more scoring)

Defensive Awareness +18 (Again this slider is subjective to your playing skill, I love defense...if you want more scoring lower this a click or two)

Injuries +11
Def Stop Power +20 (all the way right...so picks aren't too effective...I know some think the CPU falls for the pump fake with this setting but I think CPU falls for pump fake in realistic amounts)

So there you have it....I didn'twrite down any stats from my games, but I remember these important facts:

FG% was between 35-55% every game (wide variety)
Points in Paint was 50-75% of total scoring (me and CPU)
FT attempts 15-25 a game both teams
AND I saw some great CPU plays! i play my franchise with the BUlls and I lost a lot like I should, but I noticed that the harder I played; the closer the games were. I won a couple games by 5-10 pts, lost by 5-10 and had some blowouts against me. I saw a wide variety of dunks, plays, picks, diving for loose balls, sometimes the CPU would break sometimes it would set up for shots...I never got the same game twice....it is fantastic LOVE IT LIVE! Try it and see. WIll post some specfic stats in my future games.

The only differences for me are that I have lowered the dunk rating by one (to 9. no more between the leg dunks. And Penny rarely dunks it.) Also I lowered def stopping power to 18.

Is 2k3 worth the $$$ to go buy?

I was starting to give up on basketball games...

Also I play on PS2, is that 2k3 still good?

Dude, I would go with 2k3. Despite what most people said, I thought nba live 2002 wasn't all that bad. Then I tried 2003 and I was pretty shocked at how bad it had gotten. 2k3 is realistic. Live is now in the Arcade style realm. 2k3 VERY realistic. Game play I'm still getting used to but the Franchise stuff is great.

It's worth the cash.

Did you create your own Yao? Because I am pretty sure that he is not in the game, at least not on ps2.

I really hate those player ratings they are totally messed up. Ricky Davis has more dunking ability than Vince Carter and Kobe i believe and Marbury's ballhandling is only rated at 85 or something like that.

I played my first franchise season on rookie level and had Dajuan Wagner averaging 20ppg 20apg 30spg in 17mpg, had 100 points tons of steals 6 assists and 5 rebounds in the allstar game and he still only improved by 5 points in the rating.

I did a roaster update and they had him on the game now. I hope they just let us keep updating so I can keep this game for a long time. I also have live 2003 and Shoot out 2003(SUCKS!!!!)
Live is nice becouse you can play a franchise with more than one person so me and three of my freinds did a franchise and drafted are teams. I like the graffics of live better and the multible teams. But I love 2k3 for the game play and you can trade draft picks which is a big plus over live. I LOVE MY VIDEO GAME :) :)

WastedFate,

Thx for posting this info, but just a question. the +22, +10 etc for the game slide options. Are they, say +22 from nothing on the left side. Say if there's 30 clicks 22 would take u two the thirds the way across to the right?

Sorry, just a lil confused.

Billy.

Sorry to keep bringing this thread up, but after playing 2k3 it cleary kicks ass. I'm playing a season with the Suns and am 4-5. Amare is avg 16 and 12. He is good in this. Chews up the boards. The only thing I have a prob with is when you're in the playoffs, no playoff markings are on the court like most other games.

picky, yes, but I liked that feature in Live.

Billy, did you edit Amare at all? I found that his offensive ratings were horribly low so I jacked up his inside ability alot. He still struggles occasionally against good defenders but completely ate up the Dirk/Raef combination when I played earlier. 25 points 14 rebounds in a 115-113 overtime loss to the Mavs. (which reminded me of the Laker loss!)

I started a new franchise since I hit year 3 in my original and wanted to modify this years roster this time. Im currently 9-5.

Starters:
PG - Marbury (24ppg, 9apg)
SG - Johnson (16ppg, 5apg)
SF - Marion (21ppg, 11rpg)
PF - Amare (14ppg, 11rpg)
C - Ratliff (7ppg, 12prg, 2bpg) *is now injured for 3 weeks. Im forced to start googs at this position now*

Bench:
PG - T. Hardaway (Grizzly vet)
SG - J. Dixon (Instead of Casey. Juan is really struggling though)
SF/PF - Bender (Good outside shooter off the bench. Respectable defender.)
SF/PF - Outlaw (meh. pretty good defender. Good inside scorer if he's open)
PF/C - Googs. (Seems to be in mid-season form already. My best player off the bench, might even replace Ratliff at C.
PF - Langhi. (hasnt seen anything but the end of the bench)
C- Voskuhl. (Same as Langhi. Decent rebounder though.)

One thing I don't like about 2k3 is that it is hard to get someone to dunk the ball and game seems a little slow.
