I gave my opinion on the Sun's problem and you gave yours, you just like to add that extra (whether warranted or not) cheapshot or slanderous BS.

WTF, If by just quoting stats and saying what i think gets you all riled up, like someone already pointed out, grow a thicker skin or better still hit the stores and get more of those polish beer you relish.

What's everyone's opinion of Marcus Thornton? He is a solid player that can get about 20 a night. He's just 23 yrs old and I doubt SAC will try to resign him for a reasonable price since they already have Evans.

If we don't draft Burks, he's one of the guys that I think we should have a careful look at.

I havent watched him enough with the Kings but i liked him while paul was hurt when he was with NO, dude can score in bunches

That's just how Gentry coaches. Time management again tonight as well. He is actually trying to win.

Yes, and so is Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Channing Frye, etc...

Even if Gentry WANTED to tank the season, you actually are naive enough to think that Nash and Hill and the rest of the team would go along with it? The only guy who would is Carter, and who really gives a damn about him?

There are a few things that really have no argument:

1) Gentry's job isn't in jeopardy.

2) Steve Nash and Grant Hill won't tank a season--it's just not in their DNA.

3) Josh Childress needs more minutes than Pietrus--I'll go out on a limb and say he can be just as important to us as Jared Dudley. I certainly trust him more as a backup PF than Warrick at this point.

Now, there are a lot of people on this board that think Gentry's job is in jeopardy and that's why he's "trying" to win games. That's a load of bull. His job is NOT in jeopardy and it's also the PLAYERS that are trying to win games. They may not be good enough to actually win them, but they won't stop trying.

I said he wasn't on the hotseat. I said he wasn't tanking, I am just naive. My bad. :D I pretty much agree with your post.

All I'm sayin is that if you think Dudley should be on the bench simply because he has been a bench player mostly and that it'll help the bench, why don't you think Frye should be on the bench? Frye is a beast and that will help the bench. He's also been a bench for most of his career.

Even when I said what if the Suns got Josh Smith, some of you guys (not you specifically) were opposed to bringing Frye off the bench as if he's the next Tim Duncan or somethin.

I'm ok with bringing Dudley off the bench but I think after this season we have to get a natural PF and bring Frye off the bench too.

He WAS on the bench and wasn't nearly as good. In fact, he was pretty bad on the bench--the same EXACT reason why Grant Hill will always start when wearing Suns uniform.

You have NO ammunition here on this one, like pretty much all your arguments.

Gentry and another close loss. Big surprise. This guy is not a good coach. He is an adequate coach for this system...nothing more.

I think there is an element of what some people call "tanking" that goes unexplored but IMO, it is not tanking. Sometimes a player(s) wants to put out the effort but the body and heart are just no longer in it. In other words the player is still trying hard to win mentally but in actuality his body and heart is just going through the motions. I can also believe this may be confused with players just quitting on a coach which I do not think is the case right now although it can be in the future.

Although i hope they continue to play hard, there is really no need to play Nash and Hill heavy minutes, Gentry can run Carter into the ground if he wants. He wont be back next season.
I actually look forward to what this team will bring next season with some tweaking, here and there.

Agree with you 100% on this post. Plus I think it could give us a lil more time to evaluate some of the bench players, and what exactly it needs, it's definitely a work in progress to say the least.

I'd be shocked if they didn't do everything they could to keep the guy. I think they'd make Tyreke available before they'd give up on trying to keep Marcus.

Grant can create his own shot. It makes sense that he can start. Other than him, every other player needs to get spoon fed by Nash. Especially Frye because he just stands at the 3pt line. But I won't lie, he has improved a lot and now actually isn't afraid to post up on smaller players.

I like Frye, but I like him for his defense and rebounding more than his offense. And in games like today, against Dallas, against NO etc when they trap Nash, it takes away Frye as well. Guys like him, Bonner, Ryan Anderson etc come off the bench, they don't start.

FYI I agree that Frye is our best option at PF this year but I'm talkin about the future.

Once Nash leaves, we need to have more players that can create their own shot. Gortat has a mediocre post game currently but he will most likely improve since he the motivation that he will be a starter next season instead of bein on the bench in Orlando.

That's why I said we need to keep Frye on the bench like last season when our bench was good. And Frye was good off our bench last year as well so I don't know what your talkin about.

And once again, your arguments almost always include personal attacks. If someone doesn't think the same way you do, then their opinion is wrong.

As far as the youngins go, Frye, Gortat, Studley, and maybe even Chili deserve consideration as starters in the future. Brooks is playing with different dudes every night, I hope we see a lot more of him in these last few games. I like his game. Warrick seems to be a hotshot to the team at times but not enough to merit a certain amount of designated playing time, but if he is lighting it up, leave that mini Amare in.

Who else, ZD, I hope he sticks around, good all around game and seems to get better with time, I really like his defense when the game counts. Siler... body of a man and the game of a high school student. More cooridinated than Lopez but lost in the lights. Give me Lopez off the bench please and thank you.

Lopez is a 7 foot puzzle that I want here next year. He learned his NBA game playing with Nash, Brooks has a completely different game. Simple Simon in me wants Lopez to camp out by the boards, on both sides when coming off the bench. Brooks and ZD aren't playing Nash ball and I hope Robin tries a different approach.

Lopez can't create his own shot and our new point gaurds won't "spoon feed" him the way Nash did. He has got to get tough, pull down the boards, beat his man up and down the court, and use all 6 of them fouls if fools come in his paint. I want a manly Lopez.

Just curious here, what should Gentry have done differently in tonight's close loss?

Third straight loss and in all three the Suns led going into the final quarter. Another 4th quarter collapse. Another game where Suns outscore opponent with Nash on the floor and get outscored without him. Nash, Hill, Dudley, Gortat and Frye are still playing hard. VC has checked out a long time ago, why even bother playing him anymore?

This team is just not put together well. You can blame Gentry all you want, but this roster does not make a good basketball team. Not when everyone relies on Nash to run everything. Gentry could have made some better decisions with minutes and rotations earlier in the season, but in the end it wouldn't have mattered all that much.

Ya friggin mon. IMO we might have even been swept (I think we would have a few more wins to make it), but I still think we would have more of a idea as to where we are at. I was over that line up a long time ago, I believe you start your best and work on the rest. Carter IMO is our new Edoh!, but Edoh didn't fit, Carter just sucks.

I didn't keep as close track of it as the game before, but it looked like Robin sat on the bench the whole second half and Gortat played all but a couple of minutes again.

Starting Marcin has gotten us off to better starts, with Lopez coming in during the 2nd quarter for his usual 6 minutes.

Not bringing in Lopez for his usual 6 minutes sometime during the 2nd half is wearing Gortat down. That is why I think that Gentry is living for today and not planning for tomorrow, so to speak.

How can Lopez go from being a starter to getting zero minutes in the 2nd half? Is there nothing in between for the coach?

I also don't like to see Frye playing Center at all. Is it a coincidence that he has gone into a funk since Gentry has gone back to playing him out of position?

I know there is no easy answer. Lopez has regressed. Frye has regressed. Siler has played only garbage time. We don't have a legitimate backup Power Forward either and play Small Forwards out of position.

It is primarily the fault of the Front Office. And even if Alvin Gentry has been the skapegoat, that is good enough reason to start fresh next season with a new coach to lead a balanced roster.

It's so obvious. In his last two posts on this thread, Chaplin told desertdawg, "you actually are naive enough to think ..." as well as telling you, "You have NO ammunition here on this one, like pretty much all your arguments."

If a person has confidence in himself, he wouldn't have to personally degrade others to make his point.

It brings the thread down to the lowest common denominator. That's a fallacy of human nature.

Talk about having a thin skin. Did I say you or anyone else is an idiot who has no clue what they are talking about? Or that you are any other kind of expletive? No I haven't.

If you cry about being called naive about something, then don't join a damn message board. I'm naive about stocks and the stock market. You might be pretty good with it. I wouldn't be personally affronted if you thought and said that. It's not like I called him a son of a motherless goat.

The whole point of this board in particular isn't to agree with everything everyone says. What kind of board would this be if that were the case?

I'm sorry, BC, but there is no greater insult to the intelligence of this board than your hundreds of redundant posts on the same topic -- day after day, week after week, year after year -- followed by your self-righteous grandstanding whenever someone disagrees with you. I'm more offended by your posts than I could ever be by name-calling or naughty words.

I understand your reaction. I stick to the subject, and I have obsessed about Lopez starting over Gortat ever since he arrived.

And I started a few threads, but in most cases, I responded on someone else's thread. Whenever someone justified Lopez taking time away from the Nash/Gortat combination . . . I gave my countering opinion. Every time!

I could be as wrong or right as anyone else. I really believed that Lopez's basketball IQ is lacking.

It is ironic that I promised I would back off on my repeated posting about it just before many more posters started saying it too.

Whether you can believe it or not, it's not about my being right. I would much rather have seen Lopez catch on and help lead us to the playoffs. Or have seen Gentry make the change sooner to accomplish that.

I'm a 40+ year Suns fan and a perfectionist. As history has shown, that is a bad combination.

So, I'll take a deep breath and not take the last nine games too seriously.

But I sure hope we put an effective team on the court next season. That may never happen with Sarver. But I know I'm not alone in that wish.

First off, almost everyone of the posts you are talking about were in response to the Gortat triumvirate's constant board disruption (and it was board disruption, as much as any trolling I've ever seen) on this subject. And you still miss the point, it had nothing to do with us liking Lopez. In fact, it was as much because of how poorly we rated Lopez as anything.

Many of us made the point time and again that we'd probably be better off with Gortat starting but because we were stuck with Lopez (or worse, no one) for the remaining minutes that it wasn't going to solve all that many problems. Gortat easily should have been the starter within a month of his arrival but it would have been to little avail. We had too many other problems. We still do.

Steve
