Thought I'd get a thread going for the lottery itself, which will take place next Tuesday, May 15th. We got 5 more days to go until we know where we'll pick, which will help us figure out who we'll pick. The draft itself is not until June 21st.

The Lottery will be televised on ESPN at 7:30 Eastern/4:30 Arizona Time next Tuesday, May 15th. The drawing will take place in Chicago this year, which will be the first time in NBA history the drawing is taking place outside of New York or New Jersey. The Suns are sending Josh Jackson as their representative. They sent Booker the last 2 years and he didn't bring us any lucky. I saw Booker wished Jackson luck on Twitter, saying he hopes he has more luck than he did. Maybe with a new rep and in a new location the Suns can finally get lucky.

Suns.com has posted an article about the lottery, running down how many times the team with the best odds at the #1 pick have gotten the #1 pick as well as some other notes on the lottery over the last 24 years.

The Suns have the highest odds at the #1 pick since they had the worst record this last season, giving them a 25 percent chance of getting the first pick and a 64.2 of landing a pick in the top 3. The farthest they could fall is to pick #4.

Here is how the lottery drawing itself works...
The current system was implemented in October 1993. Fourteen ping pong balls are numbered 1 through 14. There is a four-number combination randomly selected from the lottery machine. The order that the numbers are drawn, does not matter. Each team participating in the lottery is assigned specific combination outcomes. There are a total of 1,001 combinations (although if 11-12-13-14 is drawn, it is ignored as it is the only combination not assigned to any team). They continue this process to determine the second and third pick as well.

Scott Bordow will be backstage at the lottery drawing and will write an article on the happenings behind the scenes next week. He hasn't been covering the Suns that long, I think this was his first year, so hopefully he's a good luck charm of sorts for the Suns.

I usually watch the Suns forum to see where the Suns pick.

Don't want to be a negative influence and the pomp and circumstance makes me anxious. May have to change my strategy in this draft though because what I'm doing isn't working.

I usually don't even pay attention to when it's held and just learn about it later the same night or next day. Somehow it's just less frustrating that way.

Oh good grief. I am miserable. Any Suns fan with any history with this team is a bit panicky right now.

wha? Borrow has been covering the Suns for over a decade. Used to be with the East Valley Trib before it went under.

Yeah. He hasn't been the AZRepublic beat writer for the Suns that long. But he has been around.

I always followed Paul Coro for Suns coverage since he was the beat writer. I wasn't aware of Bordow until this year and if he worked for the East Valley Tribune that would explain why I hadn't heard of him. He only became the Republics/AZCentral's beat writer this season.

I think he actually wrote directly for the Suns for a while too... though I may be wrong about that.

I know you have given Scott Bordow his just due. He has been providing great Suns coverage since Paul Coro left. I liked Coro but Suns coverage has not missed a beat at azcentral with Bordow. If anything, Suns coverage has improved which I didn't think was possible.

Arizona Sports (98.7) and John Gambadoro have stepped up big time as well.

I plan to watch it live. May not post if we fall to #4 though, might be drinking various cleaning products that I have under my sink.

Oh... you know you’ll be here freaking out like the rest of us!

If I recall correctly they pull the losing balls out first for the #1 pick. Don't want any part of this. This drives me crazy.

Kudos to you and anyone else who watches.

My stomach will already be gone.

I'm recording it and will likely watch it when it's about at the halfway point of recording. By the end I'll be watching live...

That's basically how I watch most sports related shows and events.

Well. The good news is that we cannot pick any lower than 4th.
