If Clark approached a Marion type of player he would be special. In many ways he compares to Diaw. What worries me about Clark (and I don't know) is he aggressive enough. If Clark turned into a Larry Nance type of player... well that would be something.

Clark has addressed the aggression and soft issue multiple times throughout the month in interviews from coast to coast. He isn't a pound your chest and bark like a dog type, but I really don't see any glaring issues that would convince me to worry about his hustle.

Well, the Marion/Clark comparison is somewhat applicable. They're both tissue-soft.

I've never thought of Marion as soft. Overpaid, yes. IMO, the difficulty with Marion, he was a SF that had to play PF where he was over matched with taller and bigger players.

whenever i hear people call marion soft i think back to barkley talking about rebounding. "it is all about effort" marion is one of the all time best rebounding small forwards in the nba. he is in the top 5 all time for the suns in points scored, blocked shots, steals, rebounds, 3 point field goals made and attemped, field goals made and attemped, and minutes played. and while his game wasnt based on from contact in the offense you dont get as many rebounds has he did without having a little contact.

Yeah, too bad that cliche is almost completely false. Sure, you need effort to rebound, but that's only a small part of the equation. Positioning, strength, quick leaping ability (ideally more than once in a row), good hands, good timing ... the list goes on and on.

I think Marion fits this description. Marion was a pogo stick rebounding especially early in his career.

Marion was a head case, but he was not soft.

People have questioned Clark's motor, but those who have gone back and watched every minute of his college film say he rarely ever takes a play off. He just has a sleepy expression on his face when he rips a rebound away from another player.

Clark sounds like Odom without the attitude problems, and that is not a bad thing at all. I believe he will start at the 3 for us this year. If we trade Amare, he might start at the 4.

Marion was as averse to contact as any player I've ever seen that played major minutes in the NBA - particularly after Starks submarined him. He set like three picks in his whole career, rarely bodied up to anyone and didn't fight for position in the paint nor take the ball into even light traffic. It was probably smart of him to play that way because it minimized chances for injury and maximized his opportunities to use the extremely quick jump and overall quickness. He literally never got called for an offensive foul - but on the other hand he shot very few freethrows. Some people might call that soft and some might not...

Remember a guy by the name of Sam Perkins?
