Hey All!

just wanted to get a jump on promoting the new show my boss and I are working on...

NECESSARY ROUGHNESS!

What's it about? Dr. Dani Santino's a sexy-takes-no-s%$t-sports-psychologist who's got to juggle her life as a recently divorced mother of two with her new found practice, dealing with the rich, wild and crazy football players on the NY Hawks, the worst of which is none other than TK, Terence King (think TO).

Stars Callie Thorne (Rescue Me) and Mechad Brooks (True Blood)... airs Summer 2011... and kicks all kinds of ass.

here's the promo (link's a little weird... if video doesn't pop up immediately, scroll down and click on NECESSARY ROUGHNESS icon):

When I read the title, I was actually hoping that you were making some sort of adaptation of the movie Necessary Roughness into a television series with Scott Bakula coaching a college football team.

Good luck with the show!

I thought ESPN did the right thing when they "caved". They were still viewed as a Sports News Network and that show was inappropriate in that regard. I think if they had come up with a milder scripted show or two so that people became more comfortable with the "E" side of their name it wouldn't have caused the stir it did. I'm looking forward to this show though. I see Marc Blucas is in the pilot and I like watching him act.

The entire reason ESPN stopped Playmakers is because their contract with the NFL was about to end and the NFL threatened not to renew it. Since the NFL is ESPN's biggest money maker they decided to pull it. It was too bad since that was a good show.

It was an interesting show and it's too bad it didn't air on a more appropriate network. I agree with what you're saying but I don't blame the NFL for using leverage to get ESPN to dump the project. I don't think they would have felt the need to do it though if the show had aired on FX or HBO instead.

depends on what type of TV you watch. if you watch HBO or FX, you'd definitely know Callie as she's one of the main characters on Rescue Me and Mechad was a pretty big part of the second season on HBO's True Blood. Great actors, both of which are ready to pop big time.

I obviously dont watch much tv or movies (mainly watch tv for sports, almost all weekend long haha).. But like I said, it looks cool.. I definitly will watch.. The last one you made wasnt up my alley at all.. Never been a doctor show fan.. So I couldnt give feedback on how that one was or how this one may differ.. But Ill watch this for sure..

Same.

Are DVR'd shows captured in the ratings? You think those would be easy stats to get--you have the customers allow the cable/satellite companies to feed the recording habits to the networks and you have a seemingly fairly reliable system of understanding what people are watching. You'd think people would want to sign up for it because it's like voting--you watch, your vote is cast to keep it. You stop watching, your vote is cast to cancel it. It would be a much broader sample than what neilson (used to?) monitor.
