I went with Netflix over Blockbuster just now. I've had both in the past, but several factors changed my mind. One is that we don't have a Blockbuster within 20 miles, so in-store trades aren't as important. Another is that the same deal cost a few bucks less on Netflix. Then there's the fact that I can watch movies for free online with Netflix with unlimited access. And finally, looking in my Blockbuster queue, all of the movies that were unavailable or had a wait were available on Netflix. So there you have it.

There is no comparison at this point.

Netflix all the way.

I save $16 a month on renting video games with my 2 free coupons a month from Blockbuster. If I could get games through Netflix I would probably switch but until then it is Blockbuster that is the way better value for me.

I could care less if I actually have to go to the store I am already watching 24 DVD's and playing two video games a month I can afford to not be lazy about at least one thing. I have to see daylight at least once a week. :p

I like your style!

If you're a high-volume movie watcher, BB is the only way to go.

The 5 free in-store rentals are great for the new releases.

The #1 advantage for me is that I can drop off a movie in the BB slot and within a few hours it's scanned as returned and the next movie ships immediately. This nearly doubles how many movies I receive, for just a couple of bucks more per month.

BB is definitely better with the coupons and deals they offer.

However Netflix's online instant movies of almost 8,000 titles is SWEET!

My roomie got me a 3 month subscription of Netflix for my bday. So far, I have really been impressed with it. They've got a great selection and a few of the movies on my queue play instantly.

I'm thinking about keeping the subscription once it runs out. I've always wanted to get into shows that I never got into, like Lost, Ugly Betty, etc. Seems like a cool way to catch up.

Which Blockbuster plan includes free video game rentals? I'm looking at the site and the only thing I see is that it says "Bring your Total Access mailer and exchange it for a game rental for $4.99."

Couple that with free DVD ripping software and a burner and you can build up a nice collection inexpensively.

I think you have to be grandfathered into the 2 free video game / DVD coupons a month, but I am not sure. On my account page it lists my plan as this -

BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium $19.99 / month (plus taxes)
3 at-a-time, Unlimited mailings
Unlimited in-store movie exchanges
+2 FREE bonus Movie or Game Rental E-Coupon / Month

Might as well buy VHS tapes for 50c.

I have been a loyal BB guy for 3 years now.

My grandfathered plan is $20 per month. 3 Movies at a time, 2 free coupons, and Unlimited swaps at the store.

Can someone tell me.... Do I have to watch the online netflix movies from the computer or can I send them to my HD DVR via internet connection so they can be watched on my real TV system???

WORD!

My wife was mad that they actually raised the price a few months ago. We were paying like $18 instead of $20.

I told her that there was no way in hell I would cancel it. With the 2 free game rentals (At 5 days a piece), and the 7-day return window, you can almost rent a game for an entire month. Then do it all over again.

I agree. Not only will you not get the same quality, but I find it icky when I go to my friends house and he has like 400 Burnt movies as his "Collection".

I never seem to re-watch movies unless they are truly great so the allure of having some huge collection escapes me.

My collection includes more canceled TV Shows then it does Movies.

I much prefer to have a tangible movie that I can watch when I get the chance. When I tried BB for a month, I was able to rent 6 movies in that month. Not bad, but some of them I liked enough to want to buy. 4 out of the 6 in fact.

I actually LOVE blind buying movies, and then watching them. Also, when you pay around $5 a movie, or $10 for an HD movie, its very easy to have a collection. Unfortunately, my collection has slowed in recent years. Lack of space is one reason.

Computer for now. A laptop with S-Video out is the (crappy) albeit best option right now.

Netflix is supposed to release updates for X360 and PS3, that would allow the movies to be streamed to the respective console. Not sure on quality though.

Just wanted to point out that is abomb's best (crappy) option. If he had a better video card, he could do better. :)

I do the same setup - laptop w/ s-video streaming Netlix wireless to the TV. Aside from occasional internet slowdown, it's fast and DVD quality with my broadband connection. Works well for watching old shows like Quantum Leap and newer stuff like Heroes.

Also use the same solution to stream from the network's sites (Lost, etc).

What do you mean by tangible?
