Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been having the best season of his career this year as he is putting everything together to be a consistent leader for the Nets. While Johnson is worried about how to get Brooklyn to the postseason, he was recently told the story of how Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania.
"It was about 11:05 when I got tipped off that there's something going on with the Lakers and Mavericks. What's funny is a few days prior, I had heard that the Lakers and Mavs were talking about a trade about a specific player," Charania said on "The Young Man and The Three" podcast to host Tommy Alter along with Johnson and NBA content creator Kenny Beecham as the co-hosts.
"I'm picking all these pieces apart and I'm like what's the trade like what is going on here," Charania continued. "By the time I got to the fourth and fifth person, I got all the details of the trade. I made one more call, I'm basically like, is this real? The person's like, yeah, it's real. Obviously, my hands were shaking."
As a refresher, the trade that Charania is talking about is the deal that sent Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers in what was easily the biggest trade in recent NBA memory. As part of the trade, Anthony Davis and Max Christie were sent from Los Angeles to Dallas, causing every fan of the league to wonder what happened behind the scenes to cause the Mavericks to trade one of the best players in the league in Doncic.
As an aside, Johnson has been on "The Young Man and The Three" before as he is one of the players in the NBA that is willing to talk about the NBA from a casual perspective while also being able to have discussions regarding more intricate talking points related to his job as a basketball player. For example, Johnson has been on the podcast before discussing what it's like to be a shooter in the NBA and how one gets better at that craft.
This time around, Johnson did more listening as the leading NBA insider in Charania talked about what it was like to break one of the biggest stories in the past decade.
