You absolutely do not trade Barbosa without sending Diaw as well. Barbosa is your only bargaining chip to get rid of Diaw. If you trade Barbosa without Diaw, we will be stuck with Diaw for the duration of his contract.

I would love to keep Barbs and continue to bring him off the bench. However, if that is the only thing we can do to get rid of Diaw...I am for trading Barbs.

Two years ago everyone was upset that the team might not extend Diaw. Now he's the #1 most hated guy on the team. Like everyone else, I've been unhappy with Diaw not playing up to his potential, but this hatred seems to me a bit over done.

The criticism of Barbosa is based in part on the problems he has with the Spurs in the playoffs, but Diaw had a pretty good series against the Spurs: 14.6 ppg, 54.7% shooting, 5.6 rpg, and 4.6 assists. In his last two games when moved to SF:

Game 4 - 20 points on 10 or 19, 10 rebounds, 8 assists
Game 5 - 22 points on 11 of 17 8 rebounds, 8 assists

What was more imporessive was that he guarded Tony Parker who went

Game 4 - 7 of 17
Game 5 - 9 of 21

Before giving up on Diaw, I'd like to see him on the wing rather than being overpowered on the inside all the time. I never thought he would be able to defend the quicker wings, but if he can limit Parker, then that's not a big concern.

One other thing, I've been frustrated by the way his time has been wasted playing with the French team. He's never spent his entire summer working on skills development. I'd really like to see what he could do with a reliable three point shot along with better form on free throw shooting.

If Diaw does continue on the inside, he needs to get a lot stronger so he can become a good rebounder. Equally important, the offense would need to be altered so he could play the high post.

While D'Antoni had faith in him, I don't feel Diaw was used properly.

I was just about to post the same thing. Barbosa has one of the best contracts in the NBA, he is under paid, Trading hi straight up you could not get fair value, thats why it would be Diaw and Barbs packaged together, I would love to see Diaw go, It would not be hard for him to pack since he does not seem to own many shirts!!

Barbosa is only making money that he deserves. He is only that much. Don't overrate.

Well this looks to be all moot at the moment.

ESPNews is reporting the Nets and Nuggets are working on a deal that sends the Carmello Anthony and Marcus Camby to the Nets in exchange for Richard Jefferson, Williams, Keith Van Horn's contract and the Nets Lottery pick

I don't understand why they are trying to unload Carmelo. Its the year Iverson finally goes away. Build around Carmelo.

I really don't see why DEN does this. Carmelo > Jefferson and you could argue the IMMEDIATE value of Camby vs Lotto Pick. DEN is positioned to have around the 10th pick, which is too late to find an impact big to fill in for Camby. Strange deal....

I too question the trade for Denver, however, there will be some nice players available at #10. There will also be some promising big men available in that slot. Maybe it has something to do with salaries.

Right, but seeing as Jefferson is a decent step down from Anthony and the #10 will have a 99% chance of being a large step down from Camby, this theoretically makes the Nugs significantly worse. Sure, KVH and Iverson come off, but then they are left with Jefferson, Martin, #10 and junk. What good is a lot of money if that is your core with which to try to attract FAs and trades....?

A black hole just sucks everything around it into it. Carmelo is a black hole, it makes no sense to build around him as he will not pass the ball. All superstars pass the ball to win, its what you do against the funky defenses of the post season that are designed to take away a players strength. Only guys like melo and stat just keep playing the same regardless, the black holes of basketball. Who knows, maybe that will change, maybe those guys will learn how to take what the defense gives. Jefferson gets it, he's no black hole. For all the nugz talent, they sucked in the postseason on both offense and defense.

The Nuggets blackhole is Iverson. A team with Iverson is probably never going to succeed unless it is build to hide all his weakness. Anthony actually passes the ball enough, his ppg is causing a misunderstanding that he doesn't pass at all.

Oh really? Great to hear they are both the same player since their rookie years. How exactly is Amare or Anthony a blackhole to their teams? Their teams contains bigger ones which are getting less heat. Nash and Iverson.

That's a load of crap. The Suns have some of the most balanced scoring in the entire NBA. In fact, just the opposite is true. Had we gone to Amare more in the post instead of running things through Diaw and Barbs...we might still be talking about the Suns in the playoffs.

See what they do when the defense trys to shut them down in the postseason. Melo went from A/TO 1.02 to 0.67 in the playoffs. Amare went from 0.68 reg season to 0.14 A/TO!!!! That means amare will turn the ball over 7 times for every assist, THATS a black hole. it means that when amare is scoring, no one else gets any touches. Same for Melo, the lakers trapped him and he turned it over. You do know that melo led the nuggets in TO's in both the regular season(3.3 to AI's 3.0) and in the post season(3.0 to AI's 1.8). And AI runs the offense, where there is alot more opportunity to turn it over. When the defense got tough AI's TO's went down, Melo just continued turning the ball over @ 3 a game.

You should read the scouting reports, it said the spurs goal was to trap amare with the ball, since he cant pass out. Worked like a charm in the second half after letting him go off in the first. And I expect you do know that amare led the suns in TO's in the playoffs(2.8 vs nashs 2.4).

A balck hole is very predictable, will force the issue when the defense suggests a pass.

Are you just assuming that Amare can't pass out of double teams? Whats the difference between Amares TOs and Nashs TOs. Amare gets caught in some of the most silliest plays. He is not that smart. Nash just turns the ball over when the crunch time hits. What excuse is Nash brining in?

Yeah if we had fed the beast into POPs defense a little more his A/TO ratio could have gone from 0.14 to like 0.05!!

No, but lets just have Nash turn the ball over for 3 times in a row in one minute.

I watch the games of course and amare turns the ball over more than the PG in the playoffs because he forced himself on the defense. Most all teams the PG will turn the ball over more since he handles it more, more chances for turnovers. Damn all you guys who say POP is a great coach and you dont even know what he does? Incredible! POPS took advantage of the suns black hole, and suns fans dont even know it?

i never understood these types of arguments. isn't it possible that they both sucked at turning it over? amare did it a lot and nash it untimely. those are both bad, and neither alleviates the other from blame. how does it even work to argue one against the other? they're non-correlating.

Amare has never been asked to become a passer, so his inability to hang onto the ball when fouled by the Spurs really kills his stats. My hope is that he will learn to make dump passes to Shaq to penalize teams that rotate everybody over when he goes to the basket. I have to wonder if there was any emphasis put on this by D'Antoni.

This is the NBA. Teams inquire about everyone. That's the biz. "Will you trade us Chris Paul for Steve Nash? No. OK, Thanks." Marion could never grasp that. It wasn't disrespect. You have to worry when teams DON'T call about you. I bet teams will call Miami asking about Marion this off season! LOL!

Actually, I'd rather have Amare go to the line than Shaq! ;)

Yeah, 5 years a pro and he doesnt know how to play at the high school level even though he thinks BBall 24/7. POPs just designed defensive schemes to trap amare with the ball and either the clock would wind down and he would passout to somebody with no time left or he'd turn it over. The answer was run the offense through Diaw, not because Diaw is great, but because that was what POPs would give them in taking away the P&R. DA adjusted by going to diaw, it was the best play offered by the spurs defense, not because Diaw is such a stud. If the suns could have managed a game 1 win, the adjustment would have forced the spurs hand to lay off smothering the P&R in game 6, perhaps. Its all in the scouting Inc., reports.
