The alternative to keeping Igor is just as scary - Sarver and James Jones selecting a new coach.

I could see Sarver making Jones the coach, if Igor is let go. Not that it would be a good move, or a bad one, but it would be a "save your job" sort of situation that I don't think would play well. Sarver doesn't want to pay multiple people who are no longer with the team but he would be if Igor is let go. I think Watson's deal expires at the end of this year and McD's is still running as well. We're far from being the Cavs, who are paying at least 3 coaches right now not to coach for them, but it wouldn't be a good look.

he's been an assistant too long.
cool, calm, and collected is an important attribute for an assistant coach.
players need to see some emotion from their coach at the right times
if a head coach doesn't have a passionate side it's hard for him to instill that in his team
Jeff Hornacek II ?

i'd say the Suns haven't had a real coach in 10 years

If it takes replacing Igor with Jones to get it done, I'm for it, even without a reason to believe he'd be an improvement.

Is Igor on a 3 year contract?

Yes. Igor is signed to a three year contract.

Wait, what? What evidence is there at all that Jones is going to be better than Igor?

If they really decide that they need to pull the plug on Igor, so be it, but for god's sake, hire an actual coach with experience and a track record.

Exactly.

However, I'm not sure what coach that meets the above criteria would want to come here.

It's become a joke. I wish the league office would step in.

what are you getting excited about? that's what i said -- "even without a reason to believe he'd be an improvement."

because, as Poop pointed out, hiring another coach would make three that Sarver is still paying. and since he's on a 3 year contract he's less likely to be fired any time soon. -- and not likely for an expensive, experienced coach

i would never pick Jones for GM OR coach
but for Sarver, Jones would be another cheap patch job
and i'd rather take a chance on that unknown than stick with Igor

i'm looking for signs of adjustment in tonight's game

And that's the part I have issue with. I'd rather not take a chance on another unknown. I don't think there's any expectation that Sarver will want Jones to pull double duty.

i'd rather not Jones or another inexperienced coach either.
but if things don't improve, i'll take the guy that mops up court sweat over Igor

I don't know if Igor has an assistant that would be a good candidate to even takeover in the interim. His assistants are Joe Prunty, Corliss Williamson, and Jamelle McMillan. Cody Toppert is listed as being in charge of player development. I'm not sure if that makes him an assistant or not. Prunty took over for Kidd in Milwaukee after being fired last year. He has experience as the men's coach for the Great Britain national team as well. That's not exactly a step up though. Igor is the best option, as far as current coaches go.

I pretty much came to that conclusion. I wasn't sold on Budenholzer. Then you look around and Igor was the best of the rest.
