Before the 2025 NHL trade deadline passes, the Boston Bruins traded Justin Brazeau to the Minnesota Wild. The move was understandable, as Brazeau was a pending unrestricted free agent, and the Bruins committed to being sellers.
One of the players the Bruins got back from Minnesota in the Brazeau trade was forward Marat Khusnutdinov. With the Bruins needing more young forwards with good upside, bringing in a player like Khusnutdinov made sense.
So far, it is hard not to like what Khusnutdinov has been providing for the Bruins. In his first two games, the 22-year-old did not get on the scoresheet, but his speed and forechecking stood out. Since then, he has been starting to heat up offensively, scoring a goal in each of his last two games.
Seeing Khusnutdinov creating offense early on in his Bruins career is certainly encouraging. He is taking advantage of having a more significant role with the Bruins, and his goal from here will be to keep it up. He undoubtedly has offensive potential, as he had 11 goals and 41 points in 63 games with St. Petersburg SKA of the KHL back in 2022-23 as a 20-year-old.
Nevertheless, if Khusnutdinov continues to make an impact offensively, the young forward could be a nice surprise for the Bruins as they continue their retool.
