NEW CASTLE — New Castle boys basketball coach Daniel Cox has stepped down after 12 seasons leading the Trojans.

Cox announced that he had stepped down on Monday in a statement posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"It's been an unforgettable journey, one full of priceless memories and countless relationships that have shaped who I am. The memories and bonds I've built with players, families, and fellow coaches are ones I will always cherish," Cox said in his statement.

According to the statement, Cox is stepping away to focus on "spending more time with (his) family and being present for the moments that matter most."

Cox graduated from New Castle in 2005 and was hired as the head coach ahead of the 2013-14 season. He finishes his New Castle career with a 163-127 career record over 12 seasons leading the Trojans. New Castle won its 19th regional title in school history under Cox in 2018. He also led a sectional title run in 2021.

New Castle finished 9-15 in 2024-25, ending its season with a loss to Delta in the sectional championship.

Cox is the fourth boys basketball head coach in the Hoosier Heritage Conference to step away this offseason, joining Joe Buck (Pendleton Heights), Luke Meredith (Greenfield-Central), and Matt Moulton (Yorktown). Cox is also the fifth boys basketball coach in the East Central Indiana area to step away recently, joining Moulton, Aaron Groves (Cowan), Justin Ullom (Muncie Central), and Jerry Bomholt (Jay County).

New Castle's search for the Trojans' next head coach is expected to begin immediately.
