thats interesting, I wonder if it is LB coach/assistant head coach or something or simply LB coach. Sounds like he for sure wanted a lighter load. His success with LBs in Pitt was phenomenal.

Lorenzo Alexander already tweeted he cant wait for OTAs to learn from him

even though he could be off of the roster by then.

Cardinals closing in on deal for Dick LeBeau to serve as linebackers coach

According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, the Arizona Cardinals are nearing a deal to hire LeBeau as their linebackers coach.

LeBeau was a Hall of Fame defensive back and his background has been coaching secondary or defense as a whole for his entire career.

Doesn't make much sense to make him a linebackers coach from a technique or training standpoint.

after 40 years of coaching i think there is nothing he doesnt know about defense and linebacker position, even bowles was a secondary coach but he was innovative how using linebackers

The guy has been coordinating defenses or around defenses for 40 years, not to even mention the 14 year pro career. Unless he was some sort of absent coordinator who only sat in the coaches box to call plays I think he knows a thing or two about LB's and how to train them.

I like the fact we are doubling up our odds of landing a good DC

If our internal guy doesn't hack it, we have Dick on hand (lulz) to take up the reigns.

I'm sure he knows "a thing or two about LBs and how to train him," but that's not his specialty. His specialty has always been defensive backs. It's like taking an expert equities trader and moving him into bonds because they're both investments. Sure, it'll probably work, but it's not the optimum arrangement.

Mike Singletary worked around defenses for a long time, including a long pro career. Didn't make him a successful head coach.

The fact he played DB doesn't necessarily mean DB is his specialty when it comes to teaching.

Maybe not, but the fact that he coached DBs and not linebackers for his entire career probably suggests what his specialty is.

He's not coming in here to be a Head coach. The Singletary argument you're using doesn't apply.

hes been coaching an entire defense for the last 10 years, not just DBs

But I'll just agree. What a horrible hire bringing in Dick. There is no way he brings value as LB coach.

Sounds like they aren't moving Rapone up to DC, otherwise LeBeau would be the new secondary coach, not LB coach.

All signs pointing to Betcher being the guy.

Maybe they are going to try to use D-Wash, (when he gets back from suspension), like they did Troy Polomoulo in Pittsburgh.

Unless Dick LeBeau has changed his mind in past couple days, he is not interested in becoming a position coach, only defensive coordinator.

I'd snap up him as DC and be done with it.
