Besides, in today’s and age I don’t think any nba teams share their facilities with anyone else.

Teams are building their training facilities in nice suburbs where affluent families want to live.

The Suns players only really have to go to the arena 41 times a year.

Makes sense.

I grew up near there too. 44th and Thomas anyway. A little lower down the economic scale, but still close. I used to have a paper route that surrounded Gerard High School if anyone remembers it.

There is a Raquet Club just east of 44th and Camelback that could probably carve out space for the Suns practice facility. I bet that is where it will go.

Yeah, I grew up near Osborn and 68th street - only 2.5 miles from where you're talking about. It was even further down the economic scale than your area was, making the Camelback and 44th area pure opulence as far as we were concerned. And from your comment, I guess that means Gerard is no longer there?

That was the one at 44th Street and Oak, I believe. My first apartment in Phoenix is on the former site of it.

I’d say that was extremely likely!

A lot of ex pros and college players would run there. I used to see AJ Bramlett there all the time along with Channing Frye and Chad Prewitt. When I played with Frye he was early in his HS years and he was so uncoordinated I never thought he’d make the NBA. One of the dad’s of some St Mary’s players ran an unofficial camp a couple times a week at night and we used to play for hours until they close. I haven’t been there in probably 15 years.

Old Town? That’s not a bad area at all (at least now). We used to go to the Valley Ho after church there when I was a kid.

It was a pretty decent (meaning, crime free) neighborhood back in the 50's and 60's but the lower middle class families from the area were moving on up to the east side (or north side) for better homes, better schools and pretty much better everything. in 64, we moved to the McDowell/Pima Road area and what a difference it made to a 10 year old kid, going from Loloma Elementary to Hohokam was a huge step up. Plus that put me in the Coronado High School district and let me avoid the much older Scottsdale High.

I loved the Valley Ho, great place to Trick or Treat as a kid and on those 118 degree days, their easy access outside ice machine was a very popular hangout. I know a lot of the local kids used to sneak into their pool but even then, I was a by-the-book rules follower and never dared going that far over the line.

Yep. When I was in hs and college I would go to Pierce Park to place pick up games. I delivered newspapers all around that area. I had an apartment complex on the East side of 44th just south of Oak. Just an aside, one of my customers was JD Hill. Some of you old Sun Devil fans might remember that name. He was actually playing in the NFL when he was my customer.

The Pelicans share their facility with the Saints. They have a new facility that was added onto the existing Saints facility in the last 2-3 years. They could be an outlier but I thought I'd mention it since I know they share their space, in a way. I looked it up recently to see if they had a new facility or something like that which caused Aaron Nelson to want to go there.

Interesting. But that’s still a much different scenario sharing with another professional team than would be the case sharing with the public.

Years ago when the suns used the JCC it was so common to see the players casually interacting with the public. What a different time.

56th and Thomas for me. Ingleside Elementary and Arcadia HS before moving to Scottsdale and finishing at Saguaro HS.

You can see where it’s going to be. They tore a building and parking structure down and fenced the property. Pretty much across from the steakhouse.
