I remember Kobe's words. He said something like, "now I'll have to ask for forgiveness from my wife and my god." This was a few weeks after the incident, so why was he just THEN asking for forgiveness? I'm not just blaming Kobe, everybody seems to do this but it appears as if they aren't sincerely sorry for their actions if they only ask for forgiveness when the media finds out he lied about not doing anything wrong. bothers me...

OK, let's try to explain this to you like I would to a 3 year old:

Kobe Bryant did a terrible thing.

He said that he was sorry.

He asked his wife to forgive him.

There is no evidence that he is guilty of any crime.

And what the heck is "Christian morals" all about Chap? You don't have anything better, so you play the "Christian" card.
Whaat the heck am I supposed to do as a Christian?
To burn him alive? To send him to the electric chair? To forgive him? You tell me, since you are such great expert on Christian morality.

Actually for once, I would have to say that you are acting very "Christianly" by forgiving him and not mistreating him.

But to say there is no evidence is patently absurd...it might not prove he is a rapist, but there is evidence.

When I say evidence, I mean evidence that can prove something beyond a reasonable doubt. So far, we know that there is evidence that he slept with her, and her word.

Neither one will accomplish anything.

As far as acting "Christianly" goes, all I ever ask is for somebody to admit they sinned or "made a mistake." Bryant did that, he is clean in my book. Now I don't know if he was sorry about what he did or sorry that he got cought, but that's not any of my business. God will sort that out.

I just want this great ball player, a young man with family to be able to put this behind him, move on, and continue on his quest of being one of the best basketball players of all times.

Do you know he didnt ask his wife for forgiveniss before the press conference?? For all you know he told her the next morning and cried for forgiveness.

Just because it was the first time the public saw it doesnt mean it was the first time it happened, I think it is nieve to think that Kobe waited to apologize until everyone saw it.

Scarlet Letter

Every time I see this now I think of the skit on Saturday Night Live. Jack Nicholson's girlfriend was host and during the skit she had to wear the scarlet letters B and J.

LOL just thinking about it.

NOT cheating on my wife or girlfriend. That is FAR worse.

So when you say, "cheating on your wife or your girlfriend," does that mean cheating on one while not cheating on the other?

I didn't mean to say that I thought first time he thought about apologizing was when everybody saw it. I think he waited until he knew he was going to get caught. Yeah, this happens all the time, and I hate it. People wait only until someone is going to find out and then they are sincerely sorry and asking for forgiveness. If Kobe didn't think anybody would find out, do you think he'd go to his wife, tell her what he did and ask foregiveness? I don't think so, and that's why I don't give him the benefit of the doubt. Not many guys would do that, but I think the ones who are sincerely sorry for their actions would. That's all I'm saying.

Maybe I'm just a Kobe hater or I'm picky because this whole thing bothers me....Every little thing about this case right after the charges were filed has pissed me off.....False reports, false images of the victim, people posting her name and address, the 4 million dollar ring etc. The media doesn't help either. Soon they'll have the "Kobe Bryant case" theme music like the did with the Iraq war. Pisses me off to no end. Though none of this has to do with the original post, which was intended comic relief...sorry

Stefan's view of things:

Kobe: "great ball player, a young man with family... [who hopefully is] able to put this behind him"

alleged victim: "*****"

He didn't recognize shyt. He got busted. He waited till he was caught till he apologized too. Now he's trying to dig himself out of a deep hole.... by ......

Buying a 4 million dollar ring for his wife?

If he hadn't been caught... would he recognize the mistake he's making?

I doubt it.

Why do you ask, Ryan? Do you feel all warm and fuzzy toward men who cheat on their wives?

I am seriously late on this one...

I have a problem with drunk drivers, but I could care less if somebody cheats on their wife. That is their own personal business and it does not effect me what so ever. The morals of someone else is something I cannot control, and as long as they are not breaking the law, it is none of my business.

Adultery speaks volumes about a man's character. (And it was against the law in most places...until we began our journey towards an "anything goes society" )

If you were in business with someone who cheated on his wife...do you really think the guy wouldn't hesitate to stab you in the back, or lie, cheat and even steal from the business? If he'll betray the person he is supposedly closest to...what are you to him, besides an easy target?

I just choose not to think highly of adulterers and, in Kobe's case, will not put any of my hard earned money toward the gear of an adulterer. Just how I feel.

I do hope you are the type of person who would not cheat on your wife.

Personally, I don't think that is a fair assessment. Just because a man cheats on his wife doesn't mean he is going to steal from me or stab me in the back.

I used to travel all the time and the people I would go with would pick up women in bars, call escorts and they were married...not once have I ever had a business related issue with a "cheater". Personally, I would never cheat on my wife because I have too much respect for myself and her. A single sexual encounter cannot replace a lifetime of love and memories with my wife

Like I said before, it is none of my business what they do outside the workplace as long as it is not illegal. They will have to face the concequences for their actions eventually to their wife, their lawyer, their god. It is not my place to judge anyone.

Look at the 10 Commandments. Kobe expressly violated one of the Commandments. So much for SS's adherence to faith.

(Personally, I'm not religious, so I could really care less about the Commandments--but I do care about the moral and/or ethical complications of the situation)

The problem is, right now, it may or may not be illegal. Since there is a 50/50 chance it is illegal, it turns into something much more vile and evil than just simple adultery.

I agree with you 100%, but I am refering to BIM's statements that basically say that someone who cheats on their wife cannot be trusted in any other aspects of life.

I didn't say they absolutely would, but I believe they'd be more likely than the guy who remains loyal to his wife. It's just like this Kobe situation. Without knowledge of his adultery, most people immediately said "Not Kobe." Once the adultery was admitted to, many were left saying "I didn't think he was capable of sexual assault, but heck, he did cheat on his wife...so how well do we really know him anyway?" As I said before, adultery says a lot about a man's character.

Nobody knows Kobe except for maybe his teammates and family. I find it very disturbing that people would come to his aid, like Sirstephan, who don't even know the guy and say that he would never do this. I do agree that now adultery has been established, his character is quite questionable...but this is simply because that is the only part of his character I know to be true.

Ross Perot (not that I am a big fan of his) fired his execs if they were adulterous. His reasoning was simple.

"If a man's wife can't trust him, how in the world should I trust him?"

That said, I have no doubt that adultery is the rule, more than the exception for NBA players. Magic Johnson's life and Doug Christie's wife evidence that.

But to say there is no evidence of rape, or even to say that there is not evidence "beyond a reasonable doubt" (which is the standard) is really foolish.

The defense attorney's don't even know all the evidence yet.

Sirstephan, you are really beginning to look foolish at this point.

I love the irony here. Didn't I drop this parable on you in your dogged pursuit of labelling the Colorado girl in this case a ***** and a ****?

Damn Stefan, use the bible to live your life, not to argue points only when they suit you. Hypocrite.

Hey, I didn't introduce the Bible here, it was others who introduced it in this argument.

I stand by everything I said, and I am sure that Mr. Bryant's attorney will prove that he is not guilty and shatter girl's credibility.

I hate the Lakers as much as the next guy, but this is no longer about the Lakers, this is about a terrific young man with a wife and a child, whose lives are being destroyed as we speak.

Anyways, the trial will tell who was right and who was wrong.

Hmmm....first biblically slanted post in thios thread: SirStefan: "Well, why don't we just stone the wicked sinner to death. Perhaps you guys can cast the first stone."

Second, proving Kobe not guilty and shattering the girl's credibility are seperate issues. As we've speculated previously - he could have sexually assaulted a mentally unstable girl. Just because she has a questionable past does not mean she was not attacked.

It never should have been "about the Lakers."

The trial may or may not tell who was right and who was wrong. That's our justice system.

... and of course Brian, if he is found guilty, you will say that the trial determined who was right and who was wrong, and if he is found not guilty, you will say that the system screwed up.
