Cavemen (ABC): we all know this is based on the geico ads

If Cavemen lasts a whole season I'd be shocked. The TV ads got old pretty fast, how do they plan to keep things funny without the same stupid joke show after show.

Has a commercial ever been made into a tv show?

I once saw a movie that turned into a car commercial for Cooper Minis. It was called Ronin, but it should have been called "Hey, watch us drive a bunch of cute little cars through France."

Every James Bond movie since Tomorrow Never Dies has been a car commercial.

Not one of those descriptions appealed to me. Yikes. Abomb's fake Alan Alda Alzheimers show looked more appealing.

Ronin had those chases through Nice if I recall correctly, I don't think they were mini-coopers though. Actually the car chases in Ronin were considered by some to be among the best ever on film--I personally didn't care for the movie.

Italian Job was all mini-Coopers.

I just saw the pilot for Reaper and I thought it was great. Very funny.

I just watched it. It was funny and I'd watch it if nothing else was on, but it's not going to be "must see" television for me.

That's right. Italian Job had the Coopers. Ronin was still bad, particularly because it was written by David Mamet. That script was a long way off from Glengarry Glen Ross, Oleanna, The Spanish Prisoner, and The Edge. Oof.

FYI, the pilot for the Sarah Connor Chronicles is now available through bittorrent.

Ronin wasn't very good, but I thought the car chases made it worth watching at least once.

I watched it last night. It was okay, but for a pilot it was very weak. It does have Summer Glau from Firefly which I suppose is good. I'm not expecting too much out of this show.

In a related note two more pilots are now available through bittorrent.

1) Chuck (NBC): I liked the pilot, but spy stuff has a difficult time translating to TV. Alias did a great job, but many others come off looking totally lame. Even after a decent pilot, this has the feeling of Jake 2.0 (whose pilot I also liked) with better production values.
2) Pushing Daisies (ABC): First off, I hate the kind of fairytale storytelling narration this show had. The show itself had a mildly intriguing premise. The pilot itself was well done. None of that is going to add up to me watching the show.

Watched the pilot of The Bionic Woman today. Again nothing special. It was kind of like a less edgier version of Painkiller Jane with better production values but the same bad acting. Thumbs down for me.

The only pilots I'm looking forward to seeing now are Life and Journeyman

If anybody is interested, you can catch the pilot of Reaper online by going to cwtv.com/reaper and putting in the passcode: 082507. It will only last until August 4th, but it's a decent show, so it's probably worth the 40 minutes it takes to watch it.

PS: This is not spam--all this came from Comicon, and I thought the ASFN crew might like to check it out.

I think Journeyman looks good.

I will be watching this simply because it has Vorenus in it (from Rome). Plus it has a quantum leap vibe and I loved that show.

I fully expect it to suck, though, but I hope it doesn't.

Plus it has a quantum leap vibe ...

That's all you needed to say. As long as it's like the first two seasons of QL, and not the sappy "I miss the 60s" QL of later years, I'm there.

Most of the pilots I've seen we're disappointing. I haven't seen the pilot for Journeyman, but the promo for it was pretty good. I'm upgrading this show to thumbs up. I'm also downgrading k-ville to thumbs down based on the recent commercials.

What about the new show with the lead character from Band of Brothers???

Some of the previews interested me. I think it is on NBC.

edit.... It's called Life.

I will probably give it a shot.

I loved the first couple seasons of Quantum Leap. It was just such a great idea for a show.

Did you ever see the episode where Bakula's character finally goes back to his family as a teenager and he plays Imagine for his sister on the porch? And everyone freaks out like he just sang his allegiance to Satan and planned on burning some churches down?

Episodes like that made me go looking for something else as a lead-in show to watch before Unsolved Mysteries (which never had a bad episode!)
