One more question as I want to know all aspects before I spend any money. If I want to get out of it after one year, would I just PM an owner or how might I go about doing it? I don't want to be locked into anything, although I don't think I'm going anywhere.

You don't even need to PM anyone... you can just cancel the subscription within your PayPal account.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Nope. Actually servers are in various availability zones all in US soil.

Ah, sorry -- guess I put 2 and 2 together wrong (as I often do) after a conversation with Chandler Mike early on. Keebali headquarters is located somewhere near Tel Aviv, though, right? (Wonderful city!) One of the tech guys commented about our evening being his morning, and I ignorantly assumed servers and tech staff would have some proximity to each other.

What ads? I haven't seen anything in the middle of threads, unless perhaps it's for guest users only.

I think non-contributors see them. They look a little bit like a post in mid-thread (or the ones I saw did) but they're ads. Contributors saw them for a short while until danielb fixed it.

Yeah, you know, that whole 'we won't mess around with it and it will stay free' thing has kind of gone by the wayside, ya think? Basically, if I don't 'contribute', I get to have advertisements in the MIDDLE of the thread instead of everywhere else. Not really what I understood when we were told everything would remain free, you know? Now, once I have finances settled down a bit now that I have a good job, I'll probably contribute to be nice, but I'd rather it be out of the kindness of my heart than to have to pay in order to avoid being shafted like this, you know?

Well, I see your point, but you also have to understand that money is needed to make things go. Go to USAToday.com and you get an entire PAGE that fills up with ads and you have to click CONTINUE to find the article you wanted.

You get all huffy over some ads here, but look at the entire web as a whole and realize EVERYONE has ads up. That's how they pay for their sites.

We're just trying to make this thing go. If you don't like it, I'm sorry. I never promised things like ads wouldn't be injected in the middle of threads. Heck, they already were for guests.

I just promised that it would remain free, and it has. You don't have to pay a dime to be here. Just ignore the ads and move on.

But this is more of a site that needs to make money now, and the way we're doing it is the right way. You can get upset if you want, but other forums out there do the same things.

I wish some of you would recognize how much of Jim's OWN money went into keeping this place alive. You complain about a few ads, but he's spent over $5,000 of his own cash to make this place free for you all over the years.

Yet the second we try to make this place self-sufficient, you get upset over the ads, or where they are, etc.

I'm sorry man, I love all of you...I love this site, the community, etc., but please try to be understanding. You've had a free services all this time, and it's still free.

I understand your point, and believe me, I appreciate all that Skkorp did over the years. What rubs me the wrong way is that we've been told repeatedly that the service won't really change, that the ads won't be intrusive, and we won't be pressured into paying for the site. It seems to me like it will simply become less and less and less user friendly until I'm exasperated enough to pay. A simple, good business strategy, but not one I like to have used on me. And this is the first time I've ever seen ads planted in the middle of threads, by-the-by, and I've been on a few message boards.

Well, if I hadn't sold the site to Keebali, I'd be doing the same thing with the Site Contributor stuff. That was ALL coming anyways. And I WOULD have pressured you all into signing up, because we needed the help :)

But honestly, I don't think the ads will get worse and worse. I just think the incentives to be a contributor will get better. They want to do free t-shirts down the road with our logo, etc.

And I know this main issue is with the "inline" ads, but I HAVE seen them around, on very large forums. But as far as being intrusive, I guess they seem to be, but if you look at the ones on AZCentral that fill up your screen, or in-between pages that make you click again to read something, they aren't bad at all. You just scroll on past.

First, I appreciate all the work, money and effort that has kept this site up and going. I agree with Chandler Mike, this site is great. A great community of people. (sometimes with very heated discussions...:) ).

A couple of questions....

1) I notice by my name it says [Check] and others say [Donate]. What does that mean?

2) I click on the [Check] and I see something about some ASFN bank account? Transfer and loans? What is this all about.

3) I made a yearly contribution (Glad to be able to participate). I guess it takes awhile to show up as a contributor? I assume after my donation posts I will be able to make bets via vBookie?

Thanks again for all you have done over the years. This site has been a mainstay for me since May, 2002.

The check and the bank account is all for vBookie, which you can read about in another thread in this forum I think.

Thanks for contributing!

Are you banned from ANY of the forums atm? That seems to be a hang-up on the vbookie stuff.

I am having a couple issues....

One, I donated via PayPal on the 11th and I still have not been upgraded to contributor. Also, I transfered money from checking to savings on the 12th and it is still pending (3 days so far). Also, I am not able to make any bets in vBookie.

I have not seen any ATMs but, if they are there then I am probably having issues with that as well.
