I probably have a more tolerant disposition than other moderators on this board, so it may not matter. I didn't have a problem with fans of other teams coming here challenging popular opinion. I do think fans of other teams should be slow to create threads and be a little more dispassionate in their argumentation -- that's just common sense, IMO. In that situation, just or not, I would favor removing the poster to keep the peace.
My general definition of a troll is someone who consciously goes about posting in a way that wastes others' time, bandwidth, or patience. Read into that however you like.
My preferred course of action is to attempt to steer any conversation back on topic by posting on topic. IMO, banning is for those who fail to listen to reason or totally disregard board rules. Temp banning is for those who just need to cool off -- and I like that a lot. Sometimes I wish I was banned just so I could my mind back on my paid work!
