Here is the current suns roster and my thoughts on who will be leaving and staying.

2002-03 Roster

Randy Brown * 6-2 190 5/22/68
Alton Ford F 6-9 280 5/29/81
I believe Brown & Ford are gone.

Tom Gugliotta F 6-10 250 12/19/69
Anfernee Hardaway -C *-F 6-7 215 7/18/71
Casey Jacobsen *-F 6-6 215 3/19/81
Joe Johnson *-F 6-7 235 6/29/81
Dan Langhi F 6-11 220 11/28/77
will probably return, not sure about that. He had some good games and some bad. Hard to find a 6'11" guy that can play some defense and shoot some for this money.

Stephon Marbury -C * 6-2 205 2/20/77
Shawn Marion -C F 6-7 215 5/07/78
Bo Outlaw C-F 6-8 220 4/13/71
Amare Stoudemire F 6-10 245 11/16/82
Jake Tsakalidis C 7-2 290 6/10/79
Jake Voskuhl C 6-11 245 11/01/77
Scott Williams C 6-10 260 3/21/68

14 players.........They will probably not add any because of the cap.

Depending on the draft, Williams may or not be back. He adds veteran leadership and they might want him back for that reason.

I personsally think we need a big man (6' 11" or more) that can play defense and block shots, and a 6" fast backup point guard to relieve Marbury.
(I am not sure any of the foriegn players are shot blockers at the forward or center position)

I have been looking for a center to draft but there are not many available, so the suns might find another P.F. that can play the center spot and block shots and rebound for FJ small ball.
I still have hopes that big Jake can be our starter next year and play a lot of minutes.

We have to keep Googs for another year, and he may be able to play next year part time to relieve Amare. Googs does not give us a shot blocker though.

I do not see any trades unless they use their first pick plus a player for someone.
I also do not think they will use the exception for another year?

Just my thoughts............what are yours??

I would say "impossible."

A 6 inch point guard would be too much of a liability on defense. Even Earl Boykins could back him down. :)

The Suns To-Do List:

1) Stephon Marbury should get his final ankle surgery ASAP.

2) I know a lot of people will push for Luke Ridnour or the comparable Point Guard in the draft, but I'm more or less on the side of Zarko--I want a guy who is like Pau Gasol--obviously he won't be as good as Pau, but I'd love a looong armed tall Small Forward with good mobility and an outside jumper who can maneuver for rebounds. Centers probably won't be around by the time we pick. I'm not really open to getting a Point in the draft--I'd rather bring in a Jason Gardner as an undrafted rookie instead.

3) Resign Jake Voskuhl.

4) Decline to re-sign Dan Langhi, Randy Brown and Alton Ford.

5) Send Big & Little Jake, Amare, JJ, Casey and Bo to the Summer Leagues. Penny would be great as well (he usually plays anyway). Long Beach or bust!

6) IF the Big Man Camp is still around (I heard it might not be), then definitely send Big and Little Jake and maybe even Amare.

7) Shawn Marion: For God's sake, REST!!!!

8 ) Frank Johnson really needs to figure out how to work Big Jake into the rotation effectively. That should be priority #1 for him.

I agree, that would give us big and give us that 6" :D
6' quick guard..........

Do you think the suns would do that with the hiring of Marc Ivaroni who taught at the big mans camp? They may think he can teach them now. But definitely needed for those players....

YES!!! And I do not care if any of the others do anything except some camps................no special teams like USA this year for anyone.

Zarko is interesting because he's a 6'11 230lb guy that can move between SF, PF & C. He doesn't really have the weight to be an effective center, but he's probably a lot better than what FJ puts out there (Outlaw or Googs). Plus he could actually be a legitimate backup for SF & PF.

The knock on Zarko is that he doesn't rebound or block shots because he doesn't understand positioning or help defense (just going on reviews I've read on NBAdraft.net). I think have Iavaroni on staff would be great for him because of all the work he's done in the big man camps. Plus with his quickness and athleticism he could be the C in our small lineup and we'd have legitimate size at PF & C with Amare & Zarko.

I like the idea of bringing in Jason Gardner if he goes undrafted. We obviously don't need someone to play major minutes at PG, just some insurance and can maybe play 4-6 minutes a game without losing too much ground.

Only thing that scares me about this guy is that he might have Dan Langhi written all over him. But then again he could grow into another Dirk or Gasol. You just never know.

The player who you described is not similar to Pau Gasol.

Cabarkapa right now is a totally unknown player.
All what we can know about him are several scouting reports.
We can only speculate what kind of player is he so it doesn't make too much sense to handle him as a target.

Well, according to these "scouting reports", he's tall and doesn't weigh a whole lot--just like Pau. If you read carefully, you'll see that I said he's not as good as Pau, but from those scouting reports, he has the similar type of body/game.

What makes sense then? I guess if you want to target a player we don't need only because you've seen him play once or twice, then go ahead. All I know is that I don't want a point guard or a PF with our 17th pick--and if you discount Zarko, that's all that's left.

It's two months before the draft, I think it's my right to hope for a player, whether it's just from scouting reports or not, right? My opinion might change, but don't tell me it doesn't make sense.

I have read that you wrote that he is not as good as Gasol.

I replied to your sentence "but I'd love a looong armed tall Small Forward with good mobility and an outside jumper who can maneuver for rebounds".

Pau Gasol is not a SF and he doesn't have an outside jumper.

According to nbadraft.net's scouting report and Cabarkapa's this year's stats neither he is a good outside-shooter.

Then why would you think he's projected as a first rounder? According to you, he's no better than Alton Ford.

I don't have any idea because I haven't seen him play.

No,according to me, he is not.
And no, according to me,he is not worse than Alton Ford.
And no, according to me, he is not Alton Ford.

And finally according to me, nobody (except maybe SirStefan who already praised once Cabarkapa's ballhandling ability) on this board can know anything about Cabarkapa except what all we have read on nbadraft.net and espn.

Ok, so then what business do you have in commenting on the draft at all? It's all speculation at this point. We are all free to talk about it.

From what we have read, Zarko seems like a good choice at #17. Again, from what we have read. Right now, since it's early, why is it wrong to go off what you, I, all of us, have read? Is there some law against it?

Of course there isn't.
It just doesn't make too much sense, IMO.

I think the Suns should draft Lebron James.

Looks nice but only 6-8/6-9 not tall enough for me. It is kinda of like a Amare

At that height and build, he sounds more like a Lonny Baxter type to me.

Well, the kid was born in 1985, so he's only 17 or 18 years old--it is conceivable he could grow another few inches.

6'9 255 at 16?? He'll get taller. Hell, even if he doesnt that is not a bad size. But if he's 6'9 255 at the age of 16 then I could only imagine 21.
