NFL Bans Players Convicted of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence from Combine

"Invited prospects would be barred from 'any league-related event' if a background check turns up a felony or misdemeanor conviction," Jones noted. "Players that refuse to submit to a background check will also be uninvited."

Those players would also not be invited to the draft...

but

"Vincent told teams that players who are barred from the combine will have no restrictions from attending other private workouts, pro days and regional combines."...

I like it. Any accountability they can apply might help rein in some of the borderline kids that have been protected and have gotten away with everything in the past.

I can understand a felony conviction, but not misdemeanor...that's kinda dumb. Also, are they separating any convictions as a minor vs an adult? I mean, if a kid gets caught and convicted stealing a pack of gum, as a teenager, and now has a misdemeanor record, is he going to be barred?

So basically its stating that players cannot attend the combine, but still does not mean they cannot still be drafted. I like the idea, but if the NFL really wanted to eliminate this issue, then if convicted of either these 2 counts, then they should not let them play at all?? Just curious

Not that big of a deal. Top prospects usually skip some events at the Combine anyway. Prospects make their money at the Senior Bowl and at their pro days.

Good move in my opinion. The league does not need more convicts on the team rosters. I was happy to see Michael Bidwill become head of the oversight group for domestic violence and its implications in the league. The league had better clean this up now, before it becomes irrelevant like the NBA did with all its millionaire convicts and junkies. Team after team has disappeared, only to become hoodlums masquerading as players. They don't listen to coaches or follow the laws of the land. There are only a handful of respectable teams left in the league anymore in my opinion.

Worse yet, if they have any kind of record, adult or juvenile, how are they able to get into college?

Any minor juvenile convictions should be expunged and sealed once they turn 18 so they should be able to get into college. Major and violent crimes are a different story.

Just as long as they can run fast, jump high etc.
