A fair amount of outcries on this board for the firing of Bruce. The number of coaches on the hot seat around the league and the limited number of qualified candidates to take those jobs, could retention of Arians be the better option.

My list of on the hot seat coaches in order of hottest;

1. Ben McAdoo - already goner.
1a. John Fox - he is not the guy to usher in Trubisky era
2. Chuck Pagano - dead man walking for 3 years
3. Vance Joseph - Elway should have no problem dumping this mistake choice
4. Jim Caldwell - Lions in free fall
5. Marvin Lewis - run is done
6. Bruce Arians - retire or fire
7. Jay Gruden - Daniel Snyder changes coaches as often as his underwear
8. Hue Jackson - Captain of the Titanic
9. Jack Del Rio - may wait until they get to Vegas but ...

Who will replace this list of displaced coaches if it happens? If the list of replavements is shorter than the list of potential firees do some jobs get saved?

The more the Cards keep pulling out token wins here and there, the more I think BA stays.

Regarding #7, you mean Daniel Snyder?? Last I checked, Bruce Snyder wasn't coaching or owning a team. ;)

I think Del Rio sticks around to right the ship next season.

The rest, goners.

the message has already been sent to Del Rio when his DC was fired. I think they like him and he sticks around a bit longer to try and right the ship. feel for the guy, poorly run org

I don’t think Arians gets fired this year. I think he’s back if he wants to be. But I’ll bet management tells him he needs to make some star changes. Wasn’t Vance Joseph a d coordinator? Some guys are better coordinators than head coaches, maybe that’s the case with him.

We should let fear of what others teams are going to do or not do determine what the Cardinals should do. Either Arians is doing the job, or he isn't.

I mean to say “staff” changes not star changes

Vance Joseph was a 1 year DC on a makeshift staff for Adam Gase and the Dolphins.

After listening to Arians on Sirius XM last night, I get the feeling he retires. He sounded worn out. I know it's flu season... but he was coughing, had lost his voice a bit, he just sounded worn down. They spent more time talking about the competition committee than anything, but he did address talking to his wife about it at the end of the season, and they razzed him a bit about how he should join broadcasting.

I just don't anticipate much more from him.

I'm fine with BA staying, provided he makes the necessary adjustments to his coaching staff (i.e. fire Amos, demote or fire Bettcher).

I've firmly stated that 2018 is a rebuild year, but I'll never fault the team for trying to win ball games. However, it has to make the right personnel changes and bring in quality talent via the draft and free agency while still looking ahead to the future.

BA would be a hoot and total star as a color analyst. Seriously.

If you believe 2018 to be a rebuild year, don’t you think the best way to rebuild is with a new regime so the new coach can start off molding the team in his image?

Otherwise we’re just looking at a lame duck year where our new coach can blowout any kind of rebuild started with Arians.

And the biggest fear I have in Arians starting the rebuild for a year then bailing is we HAVE to take a QB high in the draft this year and it only makes sense that the new coach have major input who his signal caller is going to be instead of getting saddled with what Arians wanted.

ESPN ranked coaches by the temperature of their seat in regards to being fired with a range from hot to cold. Hot, warm, lukewarm, cool, cold. Here's Arians:
Rating 3: Lukewarm seat

Arizona Cardinals (5-7)
Just two years ago, the Cardinals had the most prolific offense and were a game away from the Super Bowl. Since 2015, they've won just 12 games in the past two years while the offense has struggled not only to move the ball, but to score. It's not all Bruce Arians' fault. He's working without his starting quarterback, Carson Palmer, and star running back, David Johnson. However, if the Cardinals have a major meltdown in the last four games, the question of replacing Arians should be taken seriously. Otherwise, he'll be safe for at least another season, should he decide to return. -- Josh Weinfuss

This is Josh Weinfuss's take and he rarely has a true read on what's going on behind the scenes...but, then again, neither does any other Cardinals' beat reporter. Even MJ has been kept at a distance by MB, SK, TMcD and BA.

The best part of the Keim/Arians era IMO. No leaks coming out from inside the organization. People have spoken up after they left, but never when inside.

Notice who's missing from that list? Todd Bowles. Going into the season few thought he'd last the entire season and some thought they'd struggle to win 1 or 2 games but Bowles has 5 wins he got with smoke and mirrors and the Jets have only taken it on the chin one game but have been respectable in the rest.

many of those may just promote from within.... BA is definitely the best on the list though... but damn I sure hope we dont promote from within,...unless they are planning to fast track Byron Leftwich.... he may have the best non-alzheimers football mind in the entire facility

An interesting observation that I feel is that there really are few good candidates to fill out the potential openings.

Both DJ and Palmer were healthy last year and the team went 7-8-1 and looked mediocre doing it so the Palmer and DJ aren't here this season argument really doesn't hold water.
