The problem is you're making pre draft decisions of what round to draft what position. This is how you end up with the Hassan Reddick types of the world. Bpa had to be the larger factor than need and what we do in fa prior to the draft matter too.

Not really...it is a plan based upon the different depth at positions, the players likely to be available, and how they both fit with your current roster.
It's how you have to think about OT. There are only so many players in this draft that are better than Justin Murray and Joshua Miles. Those players are likely gone after round 3 and maybe round 2 so if you want to upgrade your OT position, you have to take one early.
Same with C. How many players in this draft are better than Gaillard and Cole who both now have one year in our system? Two? Maybe three?
You also have to consider roster allocation...the offensive line is only going to max get 9 spots (at the most) and most likely 8. What does that look like right now?
1 - Justin Pugh
2 - JR Sweezy
3 - DJ Humphries
4 - Justin Murray
5 - Mason Cole
6 - Lamont Gaillard
7 - Joshua Miles
8 - Brett Toth
9 - ?
Of those fringe guys...you have to draft someone who is better than Miles, Gaillard and Toth who now have one year in the system and working with Kugler. That is going to require getting a guy who you are really excited about and most often, that is a guy taken in the top 100. 3rd or 4th rounds or higher. That puts a cap on the guys who you have on your board and why teams often only rank their top 150 pre-draft.
