The Cleveland Browns are interested in trading the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported the Browns are interested in trading down as Miami quarterback Cam Ward is solidifying himself as the No. 1 overall pick in the class. The Browns trading down would be a strong indictment against the quarterback class. The Browns are desperate for a quarterback; if they don’t think one could save the franchise, then other teams might not believe in the quarterback class either.
It could be challenging for the Browns to find a trade partner. Teams rarely trade up to select the best player available. Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter are two generational prospects, but it’s doubtful either will command a haul of picks. The Browns would get the best offer if a team believes they must jump the New York Giants for a quarterback.
The Browns would be wise to build a war chest heading into the 2026 NFL draft. The 2025 quarterback class is weak and doesn’t offer a lot of solutions. However, the projected 2026 class looks incredibly promising.
The class is headlined by Penn State’s Drew Allar, Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava, Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, and Texas’s Arch Manning. It has a large group of unproven stars that could leap South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, Oregon’s Dante Moore, and Alabama’s Austin Mack.
Fans won’t like to hear it, but it sounds like the Browns will wait until 2026 to find a franchise quarterback.
