not all the players, was there a decline in talent maybe, experience maybe?
But these players are not put in a position to succeed. I remember the Deuice deal this offseason, HC bashing him with all his might at several news conferances, If Deuce got hurt he was out in the cold,
guess what Deuce, Lyle, Breaston, Patrick, Hayes, THT, most of this team is not signed long term and they are quality NFL players, with SB experience.
sometimes pressure motivates sometimes it pisses a guy off. they seen what happened to matty, edge, and others!
they seen what other teams gave to Q, Rolle and Dansby!
and they see how other teams treat players. Remember the SF trip Kurt took!
I can't think of what HC treated Whiz like this as a player? Glanville?
I think really you have the essence of the problem.
In baseball they call you the manager, in football you're the HC but I think baseball has it more accurate.
A head coach is really a manager, if you had a boss like Whiz it's not the best way to always deal with every person on a team.
It works for some, and I'm sure it works to an extent very well but it does not work for everyone on a team, some people need support some a kick in the butt and some both.
That's what good managers do, the right thing for the situation, Whiz is much too dog eat dog for me, you have to temper your approach based on what the situation calls for.
I've seen this kind of HC or manager before in hockey, and it works great for a few years then the players tune it out and out goes the coach.
The goal is to put the players you have in the best situation possible to win the game, that means no system is sacred, that sometimes you need to support people rather than kick them in the butt and most of all you need to know when you might be wrong and fix it.
Whiz is trying to bend the players to his system, bend the system Whiz, be creative, go to a 4-3, make Wilson a hybrid LB and put a real FS in there in his place to cover, then bring him from a lot of other places.
On offense, learn how to run a screen pass, practice it until they puke, get it right, get a few good plays absolutely right then just alternate them based on randomness and down and distance, if they have 8 in the box it doesn't mean you can't run it means whatever you do run better be aces.
You can't keep throwing it downfield, your QB can't do it, maybe a couple times a game with PA, sure but most of the time we're going to have to grind it out, but we can and should use the short passing game as a supplement to our run game.
Take your playbook and shred it Whiz, Warner is gone, you need a new one, smaller and focused on things this team can do and if they can't do it, practice until they can do it.
