Wow, I can see people not likeing Whiz but now DG is being turned into a great hire and succesful coach in Arizona. Talk about stretching things to try and prove a point and I liked DG. But let's not make him out to be something he wasn't. The bottom line, and that's what it's about, is Whisenhunt has been the most succesful coach of the Arizona Cardinals history. Argue all you want, that's the case.
Do you think Jeff Fisher should be fired in Tennessee? They were picked as one of the favorites in the AFC. They've lost 6 in a row and their QB situation is in shambles. He's made as many SB appearances as Whiz, and aso lost at the end. How come i have the feeling if Fisher became available that many of the Whiz bashers would be clamoring for him to be hired? Whiz has been here 3 years, 8-8, lost in the last minute in the SB, and lost to the eventual SB champs at their place. Let's can his ass.

Who would you guys hire? I'd like to know who, in your minds, is going to come in here and have the success Whiz has had. And don't even try to start by using Haley because that will only show ignorance. He was a 4-12 coach in a horreendous division, and called his own plays last year, until Pioli went and hired the Patriots staff for him.

Finally, some sanity on here. Good post.

What to you mean it's not much of a stretch to think he could turned the team around... WE SAW HIM TRY AND HE FAILED. 3 years is PLENTY of time to turn a team around. Tony Sporano and Bill Parcels both turned 1-15 teams around in the blink of an eye... ONE SEASON. Mike Smith turned a 3-13 team around in one season... DG couldn't do ANYTHING in 3 seasons... and his teams got WORSE the longer he was here. Not to mention you bring up his Viking teams which were PERENNIAL playoff disappointments who were STOCKED with talent and never did ANYTHING in the playoffs.

You talk about facts but refuse to accept the fact that DG's tenure here was pathetic and for all this bluster about his "talent evaluation", that evaluation led us to take a WR in the best QB draft in the last ten years because DG's brilliant evaluation of that situation was that Josh McCown was the answer. That's something to be lauded?! The rest of that draft was good, but the Fitz pick was the biggest screw-up this franchise has ever made. And the other picks? The guy gave us Dockett (who's so ridiculously over-rated on this board it makes me sick and immediately gave him a contract extensions he hadn't earned), Dansby, a guy who is a great player but was dicked around by the coach and the FO since year 2 and NEVER gave him the contract extension he earned as early as year 3) and drafted a WR over Future HOF QB.

Oh yeah, and he drafted a CB at 9 who couldn't play that position to save his life, he cut Pete Kendall who ended being a key cog of offensive lines that dominated, brought in Alex Stepanovich to anchor the line, which was absymal, signed Edgerrin James who was one year from being completely washed up and made future HOFer Kurt Warner look so bad that he lost his job to a guy who's now the 3rd string for a bad Texan team.

His FA signings outside of Berry were pathetic, He didn't bring in Q... he didn't bring in Wilson... he passed on franchise QBs because of Josh McCown and he made 1999-2001 Kurt Warner look like the biggest fluke in the history of Pro-Sports... oh yeah, and his team's record sucked.

Oh, yeah... one more thing... NO ONE HAS EVEN BOTHERED TO CALL HIM FOR A JOB SINCE THEN.

But yeah, Rats, he definitely could have turned this ship around given another year.

Good lord.

Excellent post. Well put.

the ridiculous thing to me isn't bashing Wiz at this point. Dude deserves a heapful of scorn for this year, but the praise of DG is such revisionist history and really goes to prove one thing... some people can NEVER admit they're wrong about anything.

Not going to respond to much more of this. It is the same old blah blah blah from the "Pep Boys". I will say I have been wrong about plenty of things with the Cards but there is no revisionist history. You want to ignore that DG took over a triple A roster from Dave Mac( can't deny that)and Whis took over a talented roster that DG gave him. Respond to that. You just want to look at the 3 years DG had trying to fix a franchise that had never done anything and that takes more than 3 seasons. I said after we finished 2006 going 4-3 in the last 7 that the next season we would breakthru. Whis went 8-8 and you guys laud him for it. Not unreasonable to think DG (after finishing 4-3) could have had momentum to get a winning season also.

Looking at the full body of work at this point DG is far more accomplished but probably not a fair comparison because Whis was not a headcoach before coming here. I am encouraged that some of you are starting to see Whis for what he is. Just takes you guys longer to come around to the truth that Haley/Warner plus DG players got us 2 great seasons. Whis was just along for the ride. Thats my opinion. Your entitled to yours so whatever I do not have time for this today.

No way! You're not going to respond to a bunch of bullet points that riddle your body of evidence with holes you can drive a truck thru? Shocking.

It is the same old blah blah blah from the "Pep Boys". I will say I have been wrong about plenty of things

No you won't. Like waht?

with the Cards but there is no revisionist history. You want to ignore that DG took over a triple A roster from Dave Mac( can't deny that)and Whis took over a talented roster that DG gave him. Respond to that.

I will respond to that. He did take over a triple A roster... and he added some talent, while making HUGE BLUNDERS. But even with the talent he added, he had no clue how to coach them. Wiz showed that he did, within one season.

You just want to look at the 3 years DG had trying to fix a franchise that had never done anything and that takes more than 3 seasons. I said after we finished 2006 going 4-3 in the last 7 that the next season we would breakthru.

and yet there isn't ONE TEAM IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE WHO THINKS DG EVEN DESERVES AN INTERVIEW FOR A JOB.

Winning meaningless games once your season is over for the first time in three is proof positive of nothing in my eyes.

How is he far more accomplished? DG was a perennial under-achiever who's teams would routinely choke in the playoffs, most of the time when heavily favored. Within two years, Wiz accomplished a greater feat than DG ever did in his entire career.... winning an NFC title.

Tell me this.... who brought Haley here? Who installed Warner as the QB after DG tried to destroy his career? Who took Antrelle Rolle and made him a safety?

Seriously, I've responded to your points with opinion and fact and you simply ignore EVER POINT made against you. Good debating strategy.

Tell me this. Answer ONE question for me. If DG is such a good, accomplished HC, why can't he even get an INTERVIEW for a HC job in the NFL RIGHT NOW?

made 1999-2001 Kurt Warner look like the biggest fluke in the history of Pro-Sports... oh yeah, and his team's record sucked.

Josh and Kurt QB'd the #1 passing offense in the NFL in 2005. And what we wouldn't give for a QB with a 64% completion % and 85-89 QB rating now.

And Green's D posted the best overall defensive rating by the Cards in 10 years in 2004 and still 2nd best since 1994 to this day.

But the second part of your statement cannot be overcome. And in the end that is all that matters.

Cards lost three of their last four in 2006. And 8 of last 9. Do I have my seasons mixed up?

which set a NFL record for most FGs in a season because that offense could NEVER get us in the endzone.

And then, how'd he look in 2006? Team got worse and worse.

and at that point, after his first year, the team looked like it was heading in the right direction... every year after that, the team got worse and worse. there's a trend here.

Green and Ryan to me had the same attitude when they came to Arizona. I'm a genius, just look at my past success, and I can fix this mess just by being here. Neither realizing that they had decades of incompetence and losing to overcome and so didn't put in the work necessary to overcome that and let their huge egos interfere with smart coaching. Ryan by assailing the offense and Green thinking he was such a great QB coach that he could just stick any QB in the game and win. Both men had success in some aspects of the Cards game but because of those failures couldn't win.

CKW did not come to Arizona with that attitude nor did he come with the shortcomings that McGinnis brought. What we got was an improved Tobin with personality and a coach with a firm grasp of the situation. CKW knew he HAD to overcome the losing mentality to be successful. And with the help of some really talented veterans he did it.

The mess this year is directly attributable to the QB play and changing the offensive line. We'll see next season if I'm right about what kind of coach CKW is when that line has had a year under its belt and we, hopefully, get an NFL caliber QB.

When Whiz got hired I thought it was a good thing especially when they could have hired Russ Grimm as the head coach (remember he interviewed for the job too).

After some of the disasters we had as head coaches, Whiz looked pretty good coming from an organization that had great success.

Now sadly I think maybe Whiz is in over his head. I first started questioning his decisions when he benched Edge for THT. Fortunately Edge got the job back in time for the playoffs run and SB. He was a big factor in that run.

Now looking at what he has done over the last year and some of the decisions he has made you really need to question what or how he comes to these decisions.

It has gotten worse since his new contract and greater power. As bad as we bash Graves you have to wonder if he didn't stop Whiz from making some bad decisions and this team going downhill sooner before the new contract.

Did M. Bidwill put too much faith in Whiz and over rule Graves? Does Whiz really know what he is doing? Did Whiz really think he could coach up Scud after no one could do it for 3 years in Cleveland? I would like to know what it is he saw in Scud that made him think he could do what no one else could?

What was it in Leinart that he hated so much that he jettison him with such swiftness?

many of these and other questions will probably never be fully answered.

agreed whole-heartedly and it was actually JUST NOW while I was doing laundry that I made the Buddy-DG connection before I read this.

I will answer that and then I am done. I am on my mobile Droid and it sucks typing from it. Dennis Green I read last week was Top 5 to replace SF coach. If that happens with the talent already there we will not win another division while Whiz is here. There a coach and a Qb away IMO. You don't want a debate. You want to throw opinions out there and get 5 attacks back from your elves on those stupid enough to respond to you. I am done with it. Whis' days are numbered believe that.

you're reading that from the top down, instead of bottom up.
Oh, so, Green lost 8 out of 9 to start his final season with that roster?

And now he has a losing record in the UFL?

Man, I hope SF hires him.

I have to assume the only place you read this was in a post by Bobcat. If wrong, please show me where you read such nonsense.

well, if they get DG, they'll still be a coach and QB away considering he had talent good enough to go to the Super Bowl who he couldn't even sniff a .500 record with and had absolutely no clue how to find a QB or make the best of a HOF one that he did have. The Niners getting Green would be a miracle for us.

You don't want a debate. You want to throw opinions out there and get 5 attacks back from your elves on those stupid enough to respond to you.

what are you talking about? You brought up points, I specifically responded to all of them, posed my own questions and you point blankly said "I'm not going to respond to what I said". Just because I have elves backing me up and you have people like SMEL and Bobcat rallying to your cause ain't my fault rats.

Crap. I am going to respond to this. Of course but it has taken all season for several of you to admit Whis is fallible. No debating just he is God and the rest of us were stupid. Now you sing a different tune because of the mess he has made. But it wasent because of any debate that got you to your conclusion. You realized without Kurt we suck and whiz is in over his head. But whatever

Did you sleep through the 2006 season?

That was probably the most Cardinal season of all time.

Lose to the Rams at home in one of the craziest scenarios I've ever seen.

Lose a game they should have won to the Chiefs.

Then there was the Monday Night Meltdown thanks to Mr. Rackers.

So instead of 4-2 they are 1-5 and they pack it in for the next 3 weeks playing some horrendous football.

Then to make it totally Cardinal that is what got us CKW and an NFC Championship and a trip to the SB.

You gotta love Cardinal football.

I like how you seem to think your opinions are absolutes and everyone who has a differing opinion is wrong. Of course Whiz is fallable, every coach is and makes mistakes, unless your Dennis Green that is, but to question what Whiz has doen so far , now that's fallable.

You like to spout about how great Todd Haley is/was. How did a ******* like Whiz ever hire him to run Whiz's offense in the first place? You do realize that without Whiz's success, Haley isn't a HC right now.

I will offer just an opinion on that. Whiz didn't want or need an established OC with his perceived prowess in Pitts as there OC. Haley offered a young guy that Whiz could margenalize. Didn't quite work out that way though as Haley developed 'chemistry" with Kurt and the offense and led us to a NFC crown and a run to the Super Bowl and after one season he is a Headcoach. Many thought he already should have been. Now your going to claim that Whiz made Haley thru his success?? That is laughable.:biglaugh:

I do not see my opinions as the be all end all. Your just spouting. I am the only one that has stated that I WILL EAT CROW if and when WHIZ takes us to the Division title with his guys not DG guys.I will even post it loud and in bold print that I was wrong and Whis is the greatest coach that the Cards have ever had. Then I will be forced to re-examine whether he coached up DG guys. Today I say no it was Haley and Warner. The Pep boys have not said as much for when Whiz totally flames out here. He is well on his way and they have had to admit to reservations about the guy. To much evidence to sweep under the rug of there opinions.

Jury is still out though. As a Cards life long fan I hope that he shows to be the true leader that alot of you claim he is and we Win many titles with him. I have stated that for me it is about getting some National respect for this sad sack franchise. Winning more would get that. They are still seen as a one hit Warner and Whis is quickly leading us back to the armpit of the NFL catagory. Limited talent on the roster, No direction in the Front Office, and terrible coaching on the field. Basically no leadership.

If you don't think the Cards making the SB had any bearing on Haley getting a job then you really need to re-think things and get some perspective. A lot of first time HC's are coordinators on a team that has been successful. Spagnola, Lewis, Crennel, Wannestadt, Turner, are all guys that have been hired after their teams success. The so-called "hot assistant". So, no I don't think Haley gets a job without the Cards success under Whisenhunt. Also show me one article ,blurb , anything where many, I'll take one, who thought Haley should have already been a HC.

So, in your mind Haley led the Cards to the SB :doi:. Does that mean you are giving all the credit in KC this year to Crennell and Weis. Because the Chiefs were 4-12 with a horrible offense, and defense, last year under Haley, without those 2 coordinators, and Haley running the offense on his own.The offensive perosnnell is pretty much the same too. Or does Haley play by different rules than Whiz.

You are completely delusional. Haley was a receivers coach in Dallas. Hardly a candidate for a head coach position.
