I see a good amount of Jets games and Rhodes makes plays all over the field. Not sure if he is a SS or FS but as I said he makes plays all over the place. Ryan brought in his guy Leonard from Balt as a FA and so I believe that's at least one reason why Rhodes got less playing time.

I think he is an upgrade over Rolle.

new coaches often = good players becoming available

Apparently, there are questions about Rhodes' attitude and work ethic. This is from one of many similar articles that was written about him when he was benched.

http://www.jetsdaily.com/2009/11/kerry-rhodes-benched-for-eric-smith.html

Rhodes has talked a big game for years, and he has a $33.5 million dollar contract from two seasons ago to back it up. Unfortunately, that hasn't manifested itself on the field. He's 6-2, 215 and athletic, but he hasn't made a single big play all season. He's been outplayed by Leonhard and hasn't lived up to either his mouth or his contract.

Whether it's because of "Hollywood's" off-field interests or certain on-field factors, Rhodes has been a relative non-factor for two seasons now under two different coaching staffs. Last year, Rhodes threw Eric Mangini under the bus for keeping him in deep help too often. This year, Rhodes said he would make more plays, but he has yet to make a single difference-making play. If benching him sends a message to him that he needs to work harder, or if it makes a difference in any way, it's a good move.

Bleh.

That trade doesn't interest me at all. From what I heard Rhodes is pretty much packed it in since getting his new contract.

I don't know. It sounds like an interesting deal. Lots of people are saying Rhodes would be a bad idea, but others seem to think he'd be a great addition at FS. It would garner us a draft pick and a starting FS, which is nice.

Bottom line for me: if we do the deal, I'll be highly optimistic that it'll work out for the best. I trust our talent evaluation at this point.

Count me in the "Yes Please" category.

According to profooctballfocus he was their 2nd ranked S this year and their 3rd ranked Safety last year. Allowed a 55.2 QB rating to passes thrown his way this year and 66.7 last year. Has only allowed 1 TD in the last two years.

Combined with his contract, here is what it will cost -

2010 - 4.78
2011 - 2.425
2012 - 3.5
2013 - 4.5 (team option year)

He also has a lot of motivation to workout with us every year. $250,000 reasons, in the form of a workout bonus.

27 year old staring FS with an awesome contract for the next 4 years plus a 5th rounder for Boldin. Count me in.

If it was to anyone but Rex Ryan.. I would say yes. But since it is to Rex Ryan, we need to find a way to squeeze a little more rape into it.

Rhodes and a 5th I'd do in a heartbeat. I think that might be one of the better offers we'd get. Rhodes and a 6th I'd have to think about.

Rhodes is a proven starter in the NFL. Isn't that what so many of us on this board cry about when talking about trading Boldin for draft picks--that it's a crap shoot? Well, in this deal you get a young player with credentials and a draft pick that could help build the belly of the team.

i'd be TOTALLY on board with this move.

make this move, maybe actually get Dansby back (seems the door is somewhat open), sign Porter, go defense with round 1 and this defense has a complete and utter makeover in the blink of an eye.

pair that D with an actual running game, a vertical passing game and all Matt would have to do is be average and we're good... for a while.

No way. I'd rather have Greg Olson and a fifth round pick. Then again, Chicago's not offering that are they.

No freaking way. We dont need a pass catching (cant block to save his life) TE we NEED D and lots of it. :)

Add Gronkowski in the second and I'm in.

Of course we do. Leinart needs exactly that - in a big way!

No he really doesnt. What he needs a is a defense to keep the score from getting out of hand.

As far as TE goes, I'd rather wait and grab Jim Dray or Dedrick Epps in the 7th. Leinart has a great supporting cast on offense. This is the draft to load up on defense. Deepest defensive draft in years, and that is something you take advantage of, considering just how poorly our defense performed as of late.
