Wtf?? Is that a joke article?

I haven't heard ANYONE say that owings wasn't going to be at short.. And this article is painting Ahmed to be some wonder boy. "He's going to win gold gloves" umm, no he won't, because he won't be a starter

This article says that the D-backs are actively shopping Hill, Ross and Cahill. I am pleased to hear that.

Other articles have said that Ahmed will be the starting SS with Owings at 2B. Leaving competition at 3B between Lamb and Tomás, with Tomás starting the season in the Minors. We need the ultimate potential of Tomás' bat to join Goldy in the lineup.

Even with that, and with Tuffy Gosewisch named starting Catcher (which I fully support because of his superior skills behind the plate and with the pitching staff) . . .

We can't have three light hitters in a row -- Ahmed, Tuffy and the pitcher.

I predict that the combo of Owings at 2B, Ahmed at SS and Lamb at 3B won't last and, especially if they can't trade Hill, it will ultimately be Hill at 2B, Owings at SS and hopefully Tomás at 3B.

I want to see that for another reason. With Trumbo named as the RF, playing alongside Pollock in CF, I want to see David Peralta in LF. Not Ross, not Tomás. I believe that Peralta is more consistent and makes the rest of the team better.

Problem is ARZ has been trying to trade Cahill, Ross & Hill since last year but unless they are willing to eat some salary, teams aren't going to bite. Cahill & Ross maybe tempting to other teams as they are cheap buyouts after the season but Hill is on the books for 2 more years, so ARZ would have to eat a lot of his salary to get rid of him.

I don't have a problem with the Dbacks shopping those guys, but I hope its from a source that is not within the organization. The KT ran Dbacks broadcasted their every planned move loudly, which frequently lead to terrible deals.

ESPN Insider is also reporting Nick Ahmed may be named starter before the end the Cactus League.

My bet:
1. Cody Ross is released. No team will give up anything of value for his terrible contract.
2. Aaron Hill gets traded. Dbacks pay part of his salary.
3. Trevor Cahill gets 5th rotation spot, hopefully performs well in the first half and is a trade candidate before the deadline

Starting in the field:

3 - Gosewich
1B - Goldschmidt
2B - Owings
3B - Lamb
SS - Ahmed
CF - Pollock
RF - Trumbo
*LF - Tomas/Peralta

*I think the corner OF will do some sort of platoon depending on the match-ups.

Much agreed. Nobody is going to trade for Ross that's just ridiculous. We're STUCK with Cahill so just hope for the best with him..

I'm really into the idea of a young infield like that. Owings Ahmed and Lamb. I'm a huge Lamb supporter and I really think he's going to be a staple in our lineup for years to come.

Tuffy is garbage, but O'Brien really screwed the pooch this spring by being terrible behind the plate, word now is he'll get work as an outfielder in the minors. SUPER! Just what we need, more outfielders!

I really wish we could ditch Trumbo, and give Peralta all the games in right.

It's going to be a long terrible year. But I'm somewhat excited to see Chip handle adversary, and the way he brings these young guys together

Agreed. It's tough because we have three guys (Trumbo, Tomas & O'Brien) that are all best suited to DH. Trumbo has had a good spring and if he plays well to start the year, it would not surprise me if he became a trade candidate.

I don't see any way we can play Tomas & Trumbo in the outfield on a regular basis since we would become extremely deficient defensively, especially when Peralta and Enciarte have proven to be capable major league players (offensively & defensively).

I'm not ready to write off O'Brien as a Catcher, but the fact that he has the yips throwing back to the pitcher is extremely concerning.

O'Brien's defensive numbers at catcher in the minors are shockingly bad. Huge amounts of errors, passed ball rates that would be the worst in baseball and a total inability to throw out runners. He is not going to make it as a catcher.

I'm more hopeful that Tomas can find a position he can field than O'Brien.
