Then we’re in a position to do it again in 2035 & you say “different era” like that has to do with anything.
Players that would make an instant impact.
Ed Oliver, Devin White, Dalton Risner, DK Metcalf, Kneal Harry, Deebo Samuel, Montez Sweat, Chris Lindstrom or one of the CB's. Getting three or four in the top 50 would be awsome.

Maybe they stay put. But they have LEGIT options. And Michael is light years ahead of what his father had to work with back in the day. Night and day, from then to NOW.

I am really liking Kneal Harry. He is not close to as physical as Boldin but he has the same nastiness to playing the position in how he attacks the ball and we lack that in our young WRs

Let's be honest here, do we really think we need "instant impact" players right now? Are we thinking that KK, Rosen, and the rest of this team are really potentially reloading for a Super Bowl run? This team needs the best absolute players, even if it takes them a year to mature. The Rams are at least a season from falling off the cliff in terms of salary cap, the Seahawks are better than us, and the 49ers are arguably more primed to compete than we are.

Yeah, any given Sunday, any given year, but this isn't like years past where we needed immediate help to give us that one final push... we need to be grooming true, cheap stars, so next year we can hammer away in free agency and make a run.

thats kinda low standards solar. we will be fielding an offense that apparently the league has never seen.
we really should have been a .500 team last season. it isnt out of this world to think we can possibly go 10-6 and earn a playoff berth
we should at the very least be expecting instant impact from 1 and 33...those guys should start from day one. possibly even the third round if TE is in the mix.... LB, TE, WR in those first three picks should all be instant impact players

A more fair comparison would be the Rams from 2016 after they fired Fisher. They improved vastly under a new first year coach and system in 2017. Then with the improvement year is when they went all in. Look at we are and compare it to where the Rams were at the beginning of 2017. I sure Vegas wasn’t predicting the Rams a 10 or 11 win season. If you look at the Rams 2016 stats and compare them to ours from this year and they are crazy similar.

I don't think this is a bad year to have the #1 pick.
The Alex Smith draft(2005?) was a bad year to have that pick because nobody wanted to trade with the 49ers. They tried to trade the pick but panicked and picked Alex Smith instead.

I just think that it is bad luck that there is no prized Qb in this year's draft

I don’t see how at all.
Me neither. There's a consensus #1 overall player at a key position that we could stand to fill. I think people might just be mad that there's no drama and a very low likelihood we trade out, since there's a player staring us right in the face to take instead of dropping back.

I mean, the history of trading out of the first overall pick in the past 20 years hasn't really brought these teams much. The Titans didn't suddenly become a powerhouse, and the Chargers didn't win a Super Bowl.

I would say it's a pretty average year actually. Remember a whole lot can change from now until the draft. Baker was considered a mid to late first round pick at this time last year.

No, but there are starting caliber players available to us. Just like Christian Kirk and Mason Cole (by default) came in and made more impact then veterans already on the roster. I believe all those I listed would start from day one, as well as a good # of others. There will be just as many impact players from 11-25 as there are from 1-10 in this draft, mtl. But we'd only have to move down to maybe 4-7 area. If you can parlay two top 33 picks into 4 top 40-45 picks that will start quickly and contribute and upgrade the OL, WR, LB, DE, CB spots then yeah go for it. I think that's what they'd prefer with this roster, but we'll see after the dust settles in FA.

I'd rather have one elite player right now, the way this team is structure, than three alright starters.

We're in dangerous territory where all of our stars are shortly going to be gone. Fitz and PP21? Not too much longer. DJ? Only a few years left on his deal. Hell, even Chandler Jones is going to be getting older as we get closer here. This is a team that's going to need some standouts.

man... this just seems like such a limp year to have the first pick.

in some ways

at the end of the day, I believe Dwayne Haskins has a shot at being targeted by multiple teams high -- which puts him in play at #1 given the next four dont need QBs

even if he isnt, its nice to have a excellent prospect at a premium position sitting there -- vs 2013 when the team was sitting at #7 staring at............ a guard.

And they'll get some not named Bosa. Plenty available who'll work out excellent long term. Maybe better off long term. I'm liking some of the the early OL and WR options especially. We really need an influx of talent there.....badly.

Do you remember who our GM is & his luck when it comes to first round picks? This is his easiest choice(Bosa) yet. Absolutely no way he can screw this up.

Here is the bottom line . We need to take the best player in college football. It appears it’s going to be a defensive player and probably Bosa. If we simply kept our current roster ( which we won’t) and we go back to the 3-4 our defense + Bosa will be better than average. Free agency can solidify the offense. Wr(Williams?) Rt (James) te ( James) and we can simply go bpa in the draft. Pick and choose and re-sign our own free agents and let’s roll!
