I already did my 25 votes... this one sort of ticks me off:
Shortstop
Player Name Team Total Votes
1. Garciaparra, N. Cubs 312,892

Because he is batting under .200 and is injured... sounds like an all-star to me.

I'm sick of Brenaman pimpin Counsell for the All Star team. The Dbacks will probably get only one player and if that's the case it should be Clark.

I see 3 at this point Webb, Clark if he gets more at bats and Counsell. He should be pimped, look at the jub he has done in the leadoff spot. He is a allstar this year.

Counsell as an All Star is laughable and Thom's pimping of him comes off as nothing more than pure myopia. Jeff Kent and Mark Grudzeilanek have way better cases at 2B while Counsell is definitely second tier with guys like Marcus Giles and Craig Biggio.

Definitely, but I was thinking more about the coaches picks. At least one Dback has to be chosen. If I could choose only one guy it would be Clark in spite of the fact that he doesn't play every day.

If a pitcher like Webb gets chosen do the Dbacks still get at least one position player? Can a pitcher be our one pick? I can't remember.

Other than Kent's HR and Counsells RBI, since he is batting leadoff that is expected, can you point out the gaping numbers that stick out were these 2 are so much better. To me though the numebr to not mean as much as Counsell has ment to a team that lost well over a 100 games last year to be the most consistant everyday player to a team that is 3.5 games out of first and over 500 and about 15 games away from matching a win total from all of last year before that allstar break. That is why he should be a allstar.

I don't see what the Dbacks did last year has anything to do with Counsell being an All Star, there are five or six other players to give equal credit for the team being 3.5 games out of first. And speaking of this year, you can make a better case with Kent seeing that he's the offensive backbone (unlike Counsell) of a team that has the same record as us and Grudzeilanek being a similar table setter as Counsell with slightly better numbers on the best team in baseball. I like what Counsell has done this year but an All Star he is not.

I guess that clutch game tying homer and than the intential walk later is not sign that this year he has earned a allstar spot.

All-star is not the same thing as team MVP, necessarily. The All-star selection is not a reward for good stats or character, but more of a glamour contest - and if the best player for his position in the league actually gets selected, it's pretty much just a freak coincidence.

And the top vote getter should be D Lee. Dude is having a MONSTER year right now
All Star voting is irrelevant... but it's pointless to get upset over how it's structured. MLB just promote$ fan voting to $park more intere$t and boo$t rating$.

Besides there is NO rule that says that a player's 2-3 months stats should be weighted higher than another player's career figures. Both Pujols and Lee will be on the team (with whichever one finishes 2nd in the voting likely to be slotted into the DH position). Lee IS having a great start, but Pujols ranks near the top of the triple crown stats as well.
