Sports Illustrated shows the batting order as:
• David Peralta – LF
• A.J. Pollock – CF
• Paul Goldschmidt – 1B
• J.D. Martinez – RF
• Brandon Drury – 2B
• Jake Lamb – 3B
• Ketel Marte – SS
• Chris Iannetta – C
• Zack Greinke – P

But another site shows Mathis - C and Descalso - 2B, as you said. I think you're right.

Mathis is Grienke's designated Catcher, even though his hitting is extremely weak. Greinke calls that shot.

And, although Descalso has been our best 7-8-9 inning clutch hitter, he has been putrid when starting. I don't understand why Lovullo doesn't recognize that and use Descalso to his best advantage as a late inning pinch hitter.

I am disappointed that Drury has been nothing better than marginal as our 2B (playing out of position), but in innings 1-6, he is a better choice than Descalso, even though you'd think Daniel would be a better choice as a lefty hitter.

Man I'm getting so excited.

Along with all the other narratives, one of the biggest for me is Zack Grienke. I love me some ZG and have spent a lot of time defending him, but I'll admit this outing is pretty huge for his status and legacy in Arizona.

Lots of people have resented him since we got him and called him overpaid, not an ace,,, etc.

With a dominant performance here, I feel like he could win a lot of those people over and really become a Diamondback. If he goes out and does what the Yankee starter did yesterday, it'll be bad.

So along with rooting for the Dbacks to win, obviously, I'm really rooting for Zack to have a great outing. For us, and for him as well.

Let's go Dbacks!!!

I am so excited for this game! This week has draggggggggged by! I can't shake the feeling we're gonna get a nice kick in the groin tonight and wake up tomorrow with another Phoenix Sports "What if" story. Hope I am wrong.

I totally agree. I love Marte and his clutch performances, but I'd prefer him pushed down the lineup.
