I am sure there were just too many questions as to how things went down, then throw in the fact he is a celeb/athlete and poof....charges are gone. Hopefully he learns from it (prolly won't), or at worst doesn't cause any more problems the next couple years.

I'm really happy to see that there won't be any charges, which I'd assume will ensure that there's not a suspension pending.

However, I don't like that he got this close to having a major issue. Hopefully he'll take it as a reminder to keep himself out of these kinds of situations.

Where Porter and friends made their mistake was going to Taco Bell, which in Bakersfield is just about the only place to get something to eat late night. An alternative would have been Del Taco, which is also 24 hours, and has much better food.

I never did hear which Taco Bell all of this happened at but if it's the one closest to his house, it shares a parking lot with 7-11 and is right next door to a Chevron where the BPD/CHP hang out at allllll the time.

Porter lives at the very northern part of town in a relatively secluded area. It isn't gated but it is somewhat remote. From where he lives(the Chinese restaurant where I work has delivered to his house on occasion, I'm not a stalker) you have to travel due east for a few miles and it would have been much easier for him to hit Del Taco right next to the freeway or 1 exit to the south of the Taco Bell he could have hit a different Del Taco. Neither of which are resting spots for the BPD/CHP for whatever reason.

Wasn't personal Rugby. That thread was just a big time overreaction by many IMHO.

No problem, and didn't really take it that way, just thought I should add that on with a reference to you post to clarify my stance.

What I should, and other should remind themselves is that this is Joey Porter after all.

His personality is what makes him, well....him.

Guess we have to take the good with the bad, at times.

Just worries me is all, more about the impression he makes on our younger players more than anything, but again I could be 100% wrong on all accounts.

Plus if he is cleared of all charges then what can any of us say ?

The best things about the situation is that it will go away and we can all concentrate on football.

eh. I don't want to open the whole can of worms again, but the evidence may have been insufficient but that doesn't mean it was BS.

...and, for the record, I didn't think he'd get convicted on those charges based on what the reports were saying...but that doesn't mean I thought he was completely innocent, either.

Before the law it's guilty or not guilty; proven or not proven. Innocence is a subjective term, as I'm sure you appreciate. I was merely reacting to an earlier suggestion that he was left off the hook, and it was BS that it hadn't gone forward.

And... no, I don't want to reopen the debate.

Maybe Joey forgot to ask for that chick in the Taco Bell commercials..Denise, is it?? She might have given him the special 5 layer deal and kept him out of trouble.

You're right, with Porter it's a double edged sword. I just think it's time we had more bad asses on the defense. I hope his nasty attitude rubs off on guys like Cody Brown, Will Davis, Mark Washington, and Stevie Baggs.

Good stuff, now where are all of the self-righteous pricks who were positive that he was guilty, would be found guilty and suspended?

Let the legal system take it's course before jumping to reactions gentlemen.

Glad to see---now I am ready to go get my red-on-red 55.

How about he was innocent of everything except for being an idiot and fortunately for myself and many of us that's not a crime. It's obvious he didn't do what he was accused of and so poof charges were gone.

Charges dropped don't mean innocent. Trust me. But either way I'm glad.

The arrested thread had way more posts and stayed at the top of the board much longer. The charges dropped thread is done at three pages and will drop out of sight within 24 hours.

That's why it sucks to even be accused of something with today's media. Months from now, just watch, we'll still be hearing, "How long will Porter be suspended? He was busted for DUI and hitting a cop, right?"

Looks like not much has changed in our criminal justice system since I retired 20 years ago. DA's still don't like to take cases that aren't pretty much hard to lose. They covet their 94-95% successful prosecution ratings above ALL else. They won't hardly touch a case that they really have to fight for in court. (Deal and go, that's what they say-----and prefer to do it just that way).
