Yeah but you can't get some of the channels I get, like the golf channel where they have an entire hour devoted to watching grass grow....:D

Future HOF right there.

Actually, the Golf Channel is beginning to grow on me - especially when the tournament is being played at someplace funky like Pebble or St. Andrews.

I'm not a huge fan of golf, but must admit to getting a kick out of watching these top-rated pros figure out how they're gonna hit the ball from under a rock, behind a tree, in 3-foot sawgrass or a swamp in a gale-force wind.

I also like to watch these guys deal with putting greens that undulate like the Sahara dunes...

Then again, ask me the same question when I'm not sitting around bored to death because there's no football.

I called to cancel my Sunday Ticket and they gave me the $120 off spread over 6 months. That makes it an affordable $180. Guess they figure $180 is better than $0.

The problem is that because only DirecTV has the NFL Sunday Ticket rights, there's no competition to keep the cost down. If cable networks could offer a pay-per-view rate on specific games, say at $12 a game, DirecTV would take a beating. But, DirecTV has a monopoly on this market, and it's the subscribers who are taking the beating.

Let's get Ari Gold on this, pronto!

For Card fans out of town this makes sence to buy the package. But if you live here and don't have season tickets you're missing the great expierance of being there.
There are still some inexpensive seats for sale! Come to the game. If we don't sell out nobody at home on Sunday will get the games.

I just called in and told them I was on the fence about cancelling and wanted to see if there was anything they could do for me and was offered the $20 credit for 6 months. It may be a deal at $300 but its even better at $180. Go Cards.

I just did the same. I am so excited!! The games are still in HD though right?

I also learned that by having them take out my bill directly from my bank account, I get ten bucks off a month.

Cha ching.

I could care less If cable and DN had the NFL package. The price would still be right where it is. The NBA and MLB packages are overpriced and they are available on all 3. Were talking the NFL here. The best TV sport ever and the most popular sport in America. The demand Is there and people will pay.

Yep!!!

And thats why I paid $44 for a single game seat to the inagural game in Sea against the Cards & just 7 years later that ticket would cost me $89 (same seat). It's the same all over the NFL, the teams & the league know they have us by the testicals!!! Wish my pay would increase like the players has:D but that would be fantasy land.

BTW, The networks have much to do with driving up all the costs because of the outragous $$$ they spend to keep their broadcasting rights

No you didn't as that game didn't exist .... although I did have a lack of voice for 3 days and remember a lot of partying on fri, sat, sun & mon and was even in the area of the stadium that sunday night there definitely was no game played

No possibility that jeremy stevens set up his entire career by dropping a TD pass or that thomas jones went for 176 yards on the ground before falling into a deep slumber until waking up in NY

It never happened I say!

I got to watch the game from the Cards sideline & help the Cards cameraman after Michel B found out I came from Dallas. I called Jones having that breakout game on the sidelines that day. Pretty good seats for $44 I would say.

...and yes it did happen!!! :D

BTW Luv that stadium

Awesome ... sounds like a great time and I'm glad you had a good time ... although I would of been happier if you had a good time even if the outcome wasn't what you wanted.............

They've improved the game day experience a lot since then ... it's been fun watching it blossom .... so much louder now and very fan friendly (although seattle tailgating is rough going......)

it's amazing what tasting some success can do to a fan base

Not sure if year long or 2 year long credits are good.... Next year, they will see it and not give you anything else. 6Months of 20 seems better to me so that your credit history is 6 months old.

Geeks, help me out here:

Trying to sift through all the chatter, it was my impression that you could sign up to watch every NFL game (either archived or real-time) at nfl.com.

If this is true, couldn't DirecTV's Sunday Ticket package be replicated over a sufficiently powerful PC?

I recently bought a notebook PC that, with Wifii, I can use anywhere in my house including my back deck. I believe it has an HDMI jack I can use to connect with my large flat-screen TV.

No, maybe, sort of.

You are going to have a degraded picture streaming over the innerwebs vs an HD satellite broadcast (which is a degraded picture vs an OTA HD broadcast but I digress). W/ the sunday ticket package I can watch the game on my iPhone or iPad anywhere I have a 3G cell phone signal. (except in Arizona where AT&T cell service suxors).

Aren't we getting pretty close to a time where PC and TV technology will converge and be one in the same?

That would require a major investment in the US innerweb infrastructure to move us pass the 3rd world for access and bandwidth.

But speaking of A/V and PC convergence, here is a couple of videos I made if my home remote interface on the iPad. (All of my DVD's and Blurays stream from a 14TB raid 5 server). Which controls everything in my house (lights, hvac, directv, stereo, mp3's, dvd's, televisions ect)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaejslEb-fE

http://www.youtube.com/user/JAGLLC#p/a/u/1/Duxs7raKN0w

But there are annoying problems with satellite - The signal locks up too often in bad weather. My receiver/DVR units tend to "fry out" after a couple of years, and - while I always can exchange them free for new ones - I invariably lose everything stored on the broken DVR hard drive - like a rare Muddy Water concert, Lenny Bruce footage or the most recent Senior Bowl

Piece of cake. If you look on the back of your HR20 HD you will see a sata port for an external hard drive. For a couple hundered dollars you can get an external eSata hard drive and expand the storage capacity of your DVR to 2TB (or nearly 7 times the recording capacity). If you really want to go crazy you can connect an eSata RAID server and record 50 times (or more) as much stuff.

Your HR20 DVR can only access an external hard drive or the internal hard drive seperately. If an external hard drive is plugged in you can not access content on the internal hard drive.

When you plug in an external hard drive to your HD DVR, the receiver will download the operating system onto the drive and the DVR will begin operating as normal.

So, if you use an external drive you get
a) more capacity for recording
b) if the DVR burns up, you simply swap the DVR for a replacement (same model) and plug your external hard drive back into it.
c) no loss of recordings

Not really...maybe a simple majority, but I'm not even sure about that.

What I've seen is that people who don't care about or have enough money to just throw money around like it's nothing think the value is there. The majority of the arguments I've heard say that they throw money away on stupider stuff. Well, I don't spend money frivolously, so I don't think it's good value at all. Fact is that it clearly isn't good value, dollar for dollar, but people like me do like to watch at home and have to pay a premium to do it. Any more price hikes, though, and I will save the money and inconvenience myself to go to a sports bar.

That's the free market at work. Isn't it grand? The market drives the price. Demand sets the price point. If there isn't enough demand prices fall, if there is enough or too much demand prices rise.

Then you should just follow the game on gamechannel. That may be way less frivolous than a sports bar. :)

Yes, or call someone who has Sunday Ticket for updates.

I smelled the hot dogs at the grocery store yesterday. Not as good as eating them of course but do you know what the markup is on hotdogs!!???

I love it. I get 240.00 worth of credit. So even if I cant call and get anything next year I already got the 120.00 credit for this year and next. By the beginning of the third year I will have used up the two years and be ready to call again. If there is no football next year which is highly possible. I really make out.

No, it's called a monopoly, which is something that is supposed to be illegal in our economy. Since it's only an entertainment package it isn't covered, of course, but it certainly hits the working stiff right in the pocket book.

I'm glad you and several others think it's so damned funny, but I don't. It's people that have money to waste that don't give a damn what they throw it away on that keep paying for it and keep having the prices raised, while guys like me that work their tails off have to waffle about whether to pay premium prices or get crapped on.

So yeah, for now, I'll be paying the stupid price, and not watching the game ticker or anything else, smart guy. I saw another regular joining in on the make-fun-of-working-man train too. So maybe you guys didn't mean anything by it, but this is a riduculous situation, and making fun of people for trying to not pay out high amounts of cash for football.
