No, it's called a monopoly, which is something that is supposed to be illegal in our economy. Since it's only an entertainment package it isn't covered, of course, but it certainly hits the working stiff right in the pocket book.

I'm glad you and several others think it's so damned funny, but I don't. It's people that have money to waste that don't give a damn what they throw it away on that keep paying for it and keep having the prices raised, while guys like me that work their tails off have to waffle about whether to pay premium prices or get crapped on.

So yeah, for now, I'll be paying the stupid price, and not watching the game ticker or anything else, smart guy. I saw another regular joining in on the make-fun-of-working-man train too. So maybe you guys didn't mean anything by it, but this is a riduculous situation, and making fun of people for trying to not pay out high amounts of cash for football.
. Aw man, stout, just giving you grief. If we lived in the same town, my house and Sunday ticket would be open to you.

You say wasting.... I say investing. Potato vs. Potaato or whatever.

Sunday's during football season is my "church".

You and Mitch kill me with your "monopoly" moans. The price would be the price no matter how many different networks/companies offered it.

I seriously doubt that. If you look at premier networks and what different providers provide the prices are all over the map. I don't think the price would be $50 dollars or anything but I do think the price would come down.

P.S. I dropped NFL Sunday ticket for the first time since it came out I think. This will be my first year. I just couldn't stomach the price increase on top of what they charge me for regular TV, lease fees etc...

I have to draw the line somewhere.

Go check the cost for the NBA and MLB packages. They aren't a whole lot cheaper and they are a completely inferior product. Yet they are available on almost all formats including Cable and Dish Network.

This is the NFL the most popular and suuccessful sport we have ever seen. If the price dropped any which I doubt. It would likely at most be about 40 bucks cheaper imo. Which equates to about 2.50 a week. Is that really enough to quibble over when It's worth every penny as it stands right now.

Both the MLB and the NBA packages are UNDER $200 (in the $179 range)...and you get 162 and 82 games respectively for your favorite teams and hundreds more for the other games.

NFL Sunday Ticket is $338...$318 for returning customers. You get this for 16 games. Having no one else to compete with, DirecTV can ask for whatever they wish. That's called a monopoly.

technically you don't get all 162 games as some are blacked out and sometimes they just aren't televised.

On another note, make sure to check your bill. Directv tried to slide in a $9.99 additional fee in 5 payments for NFL Sunday ticket-to go so you can get games mobile or at work. I never ordered that but that had it on my bill. I called and they removed it. But just a heads up in case they try it on others.

Tried that with me too. Jerks.

Legally speaking, not all monopolies are illegal. Just saying.

For me this years price is cheaper then last year by a considerable margin. That's a big help for me because I've only drawn about six months of paychecks in the last two years. Lost a job I had for 14 years, school full time, career change and the entire time I was still working full time (12 months for free as an intern) and earlier this year I siphoned off the rest of my savings to start a business (where my employees make 100000% more then I do because I don't draw a paycheck).

So the whole complaint of make-fun-of-the-working-man isn't going to wash w/ me. NFL Football is not a staple for survival. It's a luxury item and if I can't swing DTV's fare I won't get it.

There are plenty of free (ableit seriously degraded quality and illegal) live streams of NFL football on the internet like JustinTV.

We will still swing sunday ticket, season tickets and airfare out to a couple of games this year because I go out and take remodel jobs outside of my normal work, I save money by not hiring people to work on my car (do it myself) or repair broken small appliances around the house (do it myself) or the wife puts in a couple extra 12 hour shifts a week.

The economy sucks but I'm not going to complain because I can't afford a luxury item like Sunday Ticket, an inground swimming pool in the back yard or a ferrari in the garage.

You can order Sunday ticket for 7 low $45 payments.

The superfan package with games in HD, the red Zone channel, short clips and multigang viewing is dead.

The good news?

All superfan features are now part of the standard Sunday ticket package and ALL of the games are in HD.

So for those of you who have been paying for superfan, Sunday ticket should cost less this year!

If you are a Cardinal fan living in Arkansas you pay what ever it takes. I signed up the day that Direct TV came to Arkansas. One of the better buys I have ever made if you measure better by enjoyment.

This sucks. It's up to 300 bucks? Ugh! I almost cancelled DirecTV, because I have it specifically for Sunday Ticket, and it's getting to the point where going to the local sports bar will soon be less expensive.

Look at it this way. Some of the box seats at Wrigley behind the dugouts or behind the bullpens cost around $700 a game. The Cubs no matter how they play generally fill up the stadium and have the best away attendance of any team in the NL. They also have the highest prices in baseball. The fans keep on coming and they are not one year fans and out. They are multi generational.

Yup. I live in Missouri so Sunday Ticket, to me, is a great value. Who wouldn't prefer that it cost half of what it does (or less!).

At least now the Cardinals just cost me money. Not to long ago the Cardinals cost me money.... and lots of pain.

They did that to me too. How is it that they're allowed to add options to your bill without your telling them to? Now that doesn't sound legal, or at least right.

I got a letter too..said my price was dropping a whopping $10 now that superfan is included. big deal. $25 a week does seem like alot when you look at it that way, but all we ever get in Albq is 'pukes and donkeys.

I will say this though...I do use it and watch a lot of games, Tivo is great also

For those that might not know I thought I had the top Direct HD receiver/recorder. I noticed on their web site that there was indeed a newer recorder. I called and asked what it would cost me to upgrade. I was advised I had been a customer so long I qualified for a free upgrade. The following day I had my new receiver. It was black and looked much like the other but it did offer much more recording time and some other options. I had two receivers but you can only get one free if you decide to upgrade. I think I have been a customer for around 15 years. I was sent a card identifying me as a Priority Customer which has in fact helped me when I call in. They always identify me as such when I call and I am pushed to the front of the line for any assistance I may need.

I'm wondering the same thing. It sounds very fishy to me. You know there's going to be a ton people that will miss it. I'm guessing it must be legal or they wouldn't try and get away with it.

I don't doubt that is what they told you but in reality your offered up to one "deal" per year. For instance, the last 4 years their "upgrades" varied in what I got from them and it's also based on if your an "A" list customer or not.

Last year when I called to cancel DTV, the first CSR barely offered me a regular HD Receiver and free HBO for 3 months. When I said no, I was transferred to their Retention department. That is where the real negotiating begins. Even last year, there "final offer" was an HD DVR with reduced cost on NFL Sunday ticket and $99 dollars shipping and free 3 months of HBO. When I still said "no....that isn't enough to get me to stay".....then they made another "final" offer. :D

I ended up getting 2 HD DVR's, Reduced NFL Sunday ticket, Free NFL Super Fan, $49.99 shipping total and 3 months of HBO. The year before that I got almost the exact same deal. The 2 years before that I took the first Retention Rep offer because I was only looking to get one additional receiver.

It stinks you have to play the game but it has worked for me for years. Even this year when I called to cancel NFL Sunday ticket, they offered me another HD DVR and NFL Sunday Ticket reduced in price. I just think NFL Sunday ticket is a luxury and not a must have anymore so I still passed.

Two months ago I called about getting HD for free since new customers are receiving it. I got $10 off a month for two years.

Just called up and said that the Sunday Ticket was getting to expensive for me. The rep asked me what would be more acceptable. I said $20 off for 6 months. He said no problem and took care of it right away.

Awesome sauce!
