As on the Cardinals board, due to legal copywrite laws, you can no longer post pay site information like ESPN Insider.

Don't kill the messenger, I am only passing on the word.

Copyrighted Material - All material posted from copyrighted material MUST contain a link to the original work.

Please do not post entire articles. Proper format is to paraphrase the contents of an article and/or post relevant excerpts and then link to the rest. Best bet is to always reference the original source.

Here is a legal guideline, I really hope everyone will try to adhere to this.

I don't know what this refers to, but I've never posted an Insider story.

Did insider get protective all of a sudden? Was someone threatened?

So can we still post stuff that you don't have to pay for, like regular articles on websites? I enjoy reading some of those since I don't live in PHX.

Well this stinks on ice. I guess all good things must come to an end some time.

Chris, take a look at the rumor I posted...........it is part of the rumor page and just covers some of it. I also included the link.

Is this okay?

Thanks,

Whoops, did you take it down, I thought it said some of the article could be posted?

Yes you can easily copy any free material.

But again please provide a link to said place that you got the material from.

I did look at it and I was okay with it. You did put a link and did not copy the entire article. Not sure yet if someone else took it down

I always wondered how we got away with posting Insider articles. Ah well, the fun had to come to an end eventually.

FWIW, I am surprised this went on here as long as it did. The Republic, for example, is quick to go after anyone who posts full text of their azcentral articles.

Its not we will miss much. I'm surprised people pay to read that stuff. Most of it is just regular analysis and common sense stuff.

Good thread Chris, you might want to drop this note in the other forums as well. I know other mbs have gotten flack for posting whole articles. The solution seems to be to post the first couple paragraphs and the url. As for Insider, I assume they'll be cracking down too.

You can still paraphrase and share the info from those sites.

Federal law allows for Fair Use quotations of copyrighted material. Defining what is "fair use" is impossible, and unfortunately it's usually determined by a judge based on factors of the law the average person doesn't know. I go by the four rules of thumb:

I used to too. Their info isn't that great, but their football analysis helped me win over $200 in last year's pick-em pool. A lot of their picks seemed odd, but I blindly followed them. I’ll probably pay again this season (if I enter a football pool).

Actually, I'm surprised it took this long. The 49ers board I post on has had this policy for a year now, due to ESPN contacting the board admin.

It was actually me who deleted sunsfn's Insider thread this morning. I was under the impression that regardless of whether an article is posted in its entirety or only partially we were not supposed to post from pay web sites like Insider.
