I thought he was the worst choice, by far, for the HC opening. Now he can go back to college and be successful.

I think this is a bad release.... I mean name 5 OC in the league that could have done more with that inept offense... Seriously only the Bills and 49ers have worst offenses in the entire league... GUARANTEED, next year, if the titans continue to ignore their offense like in years past they will be even worse (is that possible) than before...

And am I the only one who belives Young is a great playmaker, but COMPLETLY over-rated as a leader/QB.... The titans D carried them this season, and Chow kept that offense together... Very BAD firing IMO

Funny, I always thought the reverse - good leader, crappy QB. Doesn't seem to be able to read defenses and throw from the pocket.

He was released. Wanted to go to UCLA to coach. Nothing of a firing is accurate. In 7 days or less he will be announced as the OC of UCLA.

The quotes sure sound like a firing:

"I have decided to go in a different direction and will start the process of finding a new offensive coordinator." -Jeff Fisher

"Obviously, Jeff didn't think that I could [develop Vince Young]. I thought I was." -Norm Chow

I do agree he's going to be back in the college game very soon. I hope it's not in the Pac-10 tough.

Wow, it looks like we certainly made the right choice among all the candidates.

Props to Graves and Mike!

Um - that would be the greatest thing of all time.

Look for him to go back to SC though

We'll see but he and Pete Carroll are not on good terms at all. I'd be surprised.

Did he wind up turning down the Hawaii job I can't remember?

He was a candidate before they hired Neuheisel, would he really take the OC job now?

Interesting.

yep. And Chow is at least partly responsible for Vince Young's incompetence, in my opinion anyways.

I don't think so...I think it is the other way around, personally. A guy who can't throw is hard to mold as an NFL QB.

A timely and smart post. This is the type of stuff that goes right under the radar. Through Cam Cameron into that pile as well...no?

As soon as I heard the news, flash bulbs started going off in my head about his possibly coming here, followed by second thoughts. Still, I'm intrigued. Here's what I'm thinking:

1. Chow is given credit for developing Leinart. Wouldn't his presence here as QB coach be a net-plus and speed up Matt's development?

2. Chow figured to be a better fit coaching a passer like Leinart than a run-pass guy like Vince Young.

3. The more qualified senior guys you have on your coaching staff, the better.

4. We've already got Todd Haley (with Kurt Warner present as sort of a quasi-QB coach).

5. Would Norm accept what would be tantamount to a demotion if he became QB coach?

6. Then again, the lifestyle in the Valley isn't too shabby.

7. Adding Chow would give us three guys under Wiz - who competed for the head coaching job here. Is there the danger that career-ambition might lead to a bit of bureaucratic backbiting? Or could everyone happily play in the same sandbox?

8. So OK, maybe not QB coach. But how about bringing him in as a Sid Gillman type "consultant" to help Matt?

Both the LA Times and Daily News are reporting UCLA is interested in Chow and he's interested in UCLA.

I kind of get the impression he'd rather be back in college since the Titans gig didn't work out.

Tough situation he took that job and they drafted the wrong QB, everyone said that the decision to take young was not made by Chow he wanted Matt or Cutler. I actually thought he worked miracles with that offense given how raw Young is.

If Whiz was so unhappy with Matt's mechanics coming out of college, why would he hire the guy who taught Matt those habits? Personally, I am looking forward to keeping the current staff intact. When Haley leaves next year make Grimm, Carthon or Rutledge the OC. Whenever Warner retires, he should have the QB Coach job waiting for him.

I would think that next year is the make or break year for Leinart and the Cards match up. If he doesn't make a huge jump forward or is not healthy again/still, then it should be time to go with an alternative.

If he doesn't make the jump, even by bringing in Chow, then where is the advantage to Chow staying around. That would mean he can't fix 2 QBs. Maybe not his fault but NFL stands for Not For Long.

There are 8 mediocre QBs in this draft. One could be had cheap.

If the best scenario takes place, Leinart/Rutledge/Haley will get the whole thing going.
