One rather noticeable thing that Frye has been more of recently is when he sets a screen he works at getting a defensive switch, pushing or dragging the small defender down into the post. If you're strong in your belief that he never moves into the low post, you'll probably refuse to believe your eyes but it does happen. Also some inbounds plays are designed to get him in fairly close to the hoop for a shot.

As far as Frye being an actual small forward, thats at least 50% wrong because he can not and does not defend SFs.

The Suns need a Power Forward. Playing most , if not all, of the 4th quarter vs. the 76ers with three Wings - Grant Hill at the "4"?

With the game beginning to slip away, this would have been the ideal time to bring Lopez back in and move Gortat to PF.

Instead, one Wing followed another to keep three on the floor. It just doesn't work.

That's why maybe its time to let Gentry go.

I'm really not ready to go that far. For most of the forty years I have been rooting for the Suns, they have played one Big and four Smalls.

I would have liked to see Gortat and Lopez together during the 4th quarter but, over the course of the season, it is up to the Front Office to get one legitimate Power Forward. Then a second as backup.

Then in case of injury, foul trouble, bad matchups or a bad night, we could play part of a game with a 3-man rotation at the two Power positions. We don't have three big men, let alone four.

I can't blame that on Gentry. And I can't see it as a season-long plan. But yes, I would liked to have seen it in the 4th quarter tonight vs. the 76ers.

Then the Front Office might have seen the light.

We should let Gentry go? Less than a year after he led us to an unlikely run to the WCF, because he has been given this turd sandwich of a roster with half a dozen wings and no true PF and can't make it work? We should fire him for that?

We could hang him. That should teach him a lesson. I look at our roster, then I compare it to other rosters and it makes our results rather predictable. We just don't have a lot of above average players. We can blame it on the coach all we want but there isn't a coach on this planet that could turn this roster to gold. He may not be getting the best out of them but even the best out of them wouldn't be good enough.

I didn't mean it when I said Gentry should fired. I was just really upset after that ugly performance.

But seriously though, his quote today was right on target:

""We have too many perimeter guys,"
-- Gentry, on a group of off guard-small forwards that includes Grant Hill, Vince Carter, Jared Dudley, Josh Childress and Mickael Pietrus. In addition, Hakim Warrick, who can play either forward spot, is struggling to find a role after the Suns' recent big trade.

"We spend so much time working on our defense, and it's not getting any better" said Alvin Gentry, the disappointed Suns' coach. "I'm not sure wh

Gortat

+/-
vs LAC -19
vs PHI -15

Lopez

vs LAC +2
vs PHI +2
This has been discussed in another thread as well. Lopez plays primarily with the starters. Gortat comes off the bench so far.

The sooner he moves into the starting lineup, the sooner he can start building chemistry with them.

The +/- stat reflects on the different 5-man combinations on the court throughout the game much more than on any one player.

I'm sure Scottie Pippin's and Steve Kerr's +/- were outstanding being on the floor with Jordan. Did that really make them considered with MJ as the greatest ever?

Gortat played 36 minutes, bad excuse. Besides the other bench players weren't that bad.

Especially in the Clippers game the other bench players were at 0 or +2 and Gortat at -19.

Frye was second worst with -7.

+1. You need to get him in there with the starting lineup. Anytime you spend significant minutes playing with your backups your not going to have a good +/-.

Besides, I don't need to look at Lopez's +/- to see how much he sucks right now. Putting in an occasional 10 points at center does nothing for me. Playing defense and rebounding does. He is allowing 18.4 points per 48 when on the floor from the Center position. He is currently one of the worst rebounding big men in the NBA.

So the two main things we need him for? Horrible.

Why the devil doesn't Gentry give Lawal a shot at PF? If nothing else we'd find out whether he's got any game.

I have wondered this too.

Lawal can be a Lou type guy for us.

But Gentry only plays guys that are good offensively. Warrick should be getting no minutes at all. Lawal is more valuable to him because of his defense and rebounding.

Gani Lawai at 6'9" - 234 is indeed back from the D-League and is one of the 13 members of the Suns roster.

I wonder how he's been doing in practice.

The last I heard about Lawal he was in the D-League and his performance was spotty and he was a magnet for fouls. There is no reason to believe he is ready to play in the NBA. I hope Lawal develops but I have not heard much about him from the Suns which is usually not a good sign. I know this does not answer your question.
