If Dicenzo is there at 31, I'd grab him in a heartbeat... might even move up a couple spots in the first round to try and grab him. He'd be a great sixth man, combo guard off the bench.

On another site. Someone suggested TJ Warren, 16, and 31, to the Grizz for #4. I think it would take more than that. But if you could do that, would that change who you would pick at #1?

#1 Doncic
#4 Bamba

or #1 Ayton
#4 Young

I am totally thinking out of the box right now, but the first option seems more substance, the second seems more flash.

No, it wouldn't. Ayton and Young would be the picks.

It would take more. We’re offering a SF version of Armon Gilliam and a couple of mid first rounders for the 4th pick in a loaded draft. Don’t see that pupu platter doing the trick.

But if we got it, it’s Ayton/Young in a heartbeat.

@Russ Smith question for ya Russ... seeing a couple mocks having us take Holiday from UCLA to fill our PG needs. What do you think of him (strengths/weaknesses) and how would he mesh with Booker/Jackson/Ayton?

I love Aaron but I don't think he's an NBA starter he's a change of tempo kid off teh bench. He's a shoot first guy, he had a nice assist season at UCLA but he was an extremely high usage kid, he overdribbles and lacks feel for running an offense. it was obvious last year when he wsa the PG and Lonzo was off the ball or on the bench, the offense stagnated. The scary thing is Aaron's backup, Jaylen Hands, got a combine invite and allegedly might stay in the draft, when he was the PG and Aaron was out UCLA's offense was ABYSMAL, Hands made Aaron look like Steve Nash by comparison.

Holiday can shoot it, he's quick, athletic, long and competes. Was never the defender I expected him to be, plays hard but got beat way too often. Obviously has 2 brothers in the NBA and I think he'll stick for several years but I'd be surprsied if he's ever a starter on a good team at least, more of an undersized 2.

I actually think he'd be a great fit for the Warriors off the bench but I've sort of resigned myself to the idea the Warriors will probably pick Allonzo Trier just to keep Durant happy.

can you imagine if we came out of the draft with those two?

We would definitely have defensive struggles for a bit, but if Ayton ever reached his potential and was paired alongside Jackson and Bender who could just be a 3 and D guy, we'd have three good-great 3 ball shooters, 4 guys who can create for themselves and others and have at least adequate to possibly very good defenders at the 3/4/5.

I don't think we can get up to 4 to get Young... but if he slips to 8 for some reason, I'd make a major push to get him and think we could have the ammo to do it.

No, it wouldn't change my pick. The only thing that might get me off Ayton is if Young or Bagley blew us away in workouts. No way do I go for Doncic in this draft and Igor has helped me come to that conclusion.

Just listening to him talk about Doncic and much of this was interpretive on my part. He called him a diamond but I think he intended to say "in the rough". And then he said something that made me think he was concerned that Doncic might not get much better.

Sorry, I don't even remember which interview his comments were from. It seems like I've heard or read a dozen Koko interviews recently. And as I said, that was me interpreting his comments rather than quoting.

I believe that was the Doug and Wold interview right after Monday's press conference. I heard it on my way to work. I think he was trying not to sound effusive in his praise of Doncic while also making sure not to discount him...I didn't take a lot away from it one way or the other, personally.

Ah... I read that. The read actually made me a little more nervous they might take him.

Can't believe we have an asset like this. I woke up this morning, and as I was getting out of be it hit me again. "The Suns have the #1 pick!" McD must be beside himself. His whole career was riding on that lottery.

Now back the the point of this thread. 16, 31, 59. We are in pursuit of a pg. Here are our options, even if unlikely.

Trade up in the draft: Doncic, Young, Sexton, SGA.
Just draft: SGA, Shake, Shamet, Melton.

Free agency: Chris Paul, IT, Rondo, VanVleet, Lin

Potential trade: Kemba, Shroeder, McCollum or Lillard?, other.

Inside: Elfrid, Ulis.

D'Anthony Melton is an interesting prospect. A potential PG at 6-4 with a 6-8 reach. CRAZY good defender and has a natural instinct for the game. His timing on blocks and steals are exceptional. He also has good vision as his 2:1 A/TO ratio indicates. 3 pt shooting percentage is horrible, but his form isn't. I could see that getting better.

The FBI thing might be a blessing in disguise for teams as he'll cost less to draft. Could land him at #31, but has a skill set that would be in the teens in other drafts. Personally I like what he has to offer more than his comps: Holiday or Brunson. They don't compliment Book like he does.

He certainly isn't a starting PG right now. But he sure as heck is a great player to come off the bench to be a jack of all trades defender. 2 S/G and 1 B/G is really good for 27 minutes. He really does have the potential to be a star defensive PG in the Gary Payton range. Probably similar assists as well.

Did you hear him say something about Doncic needing to improve for the NBA? I don't remember which interview that was in but it's the comment that started me thinking. Also, I can't help but wonder if Gambo's "scout" is actually Igor.

And it wasn't just what Igor said, it's also what he hasn't said. If he was really convinced that Luka fell off of the MJ and Magic tree, he'd have been much more forceful in his comments IMO. Reading between the lines, he likes Doncic's potential but he's nowhere near convinced that he's the best prospect.

As I've said all along, I would only want Doncic if Igor was trumpeting his cause.

That's not his style, though.

I have trouble imagining it not being everyone's style. How do you not do that if you feel strongly about it? Like I said, I'm sure he thinks he's got star potential. I just think he's also intimately aware of his weaknesses too and is unsure whether Luka is likely to be the best prospect. And because of "fit" issues, I don't want Luka unless Igor is adamant about him.

Igor is a level-headed guy- a diplomat, if you will. Nothing good can come out of him singing one guy's praises when he doesn't know nearly as much about others. Media types love drama. Igor is not going to give them any material. If he is adamant about Doncic, Sarver, James, and Ryan will know it. You and I will not.

Well, I certainly have no insight into the mind of Igor. But it strikes me that whether I'm right or wrong on this, it probably amounts to the same thing as far as this draft goes.
