dan williams is only in for 20% of snaps??? and our nosetackles (dan williams and carter) combined are only in for 47% of snaps? I suppose it makes some sense if they're including punts on 4th down as being an offensive snap, but that number still seems incredibly low.

and i cringe to think haggans and porter have been in the game for 90+ and 80% of snaps. cripes.

What fourth downs? I think that there are nickel packages where we only have 2 down linemen and neither Cartner nor Williams are on the field.

That's almost criminal.

Haggans was pretty good in his first year here. He contributed to our superbowl run, and it was a good stop-gap type FA signing. I appreciate the contribution he made. But he was on the downside when we brought him in, and he's below average now.

I don't doubt Porter's character or effort or anything like that, but man, what a terrible disppointment he's been.

What's really an indictement of this coaching staff and GM (and of the whole organization really) is that those two guys are the best that we can fire out there.

Embarassing.

the really embarrassing thing is thinking we could fill the LBer positions in FA. Good LBers in their primes just don't hit FA... unless their names are Calvin Pace or Karlos Dansby and play for Arizona.

seriously... 11 million bucks a year for Porter/Bradley who are arguably two of the worst LBers in the league or 17 million bucks a year for Pace/Dansby. Can you imagine the WORLD of difference having two stud LBers on this team would make?

Please don't bring this up again, it's too depressing.

The only way I thought Porter had a chance to be effective was if he played about 300 snaps this year, much like Jason Taylor. The fact that he's only 10 snaps away after 5 games is just downright confusing.

Paris Lenon playing 97% of the time also is also a sign your defense is in trouble. He was hurt at the end of a game, too, which likely accounts for the other 3%. I don't know of another team where he would get significant time, much less be seen as a guy who shouldn't leave the field.

The Cards have drafted 8 LBs since Whis took over 5 years ago. They've combined for 155 tackles, 9 sacks and 2 INTs. When you take out Daryl Washington, those numbers fall to 54 tackles, 6 sacks and 0 INTs. That's an average of fewer than 8 career tackles for 7 drafted players. We desperately need to hire someone who's at least half way capable of identifying quality defensive personnel. Or, you know, let the young guys we already have get a chance to learn. The player development on this team is sad.

Those numbers are why I am all for canning Whiz, but that won't be happening for a couple more years unfortunately.

comments New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick made recently,............. "but I just felt like from a starting point -- given the lack of spring opportunities to practice and meet, and the shortened training camp in terms of actual number of practices -- that from a teaching standpoint, we felt like there would be more carryover teaching our base defense and nickel defense really as one front."

First-year coordinator Ray Horton is installing a complex new system that would be tough for young players to absorb even with a full offseason.

Pace Dansby Washington and anyone would be a very solid lb core. Fml, being a carnal fan is like a refreshing punch to the groin.
