Your name is who you are. Its your family history and your heritage. Its your TRUE identity.

Chad Johnson isnt no more hyped on Sunday no matter what the hell is on the back of his jersey.

Do you really think if he ever has kids he will be naming them OCHO CINCO? I highly highly doubt it. Although with him I guess I wouldnt be surprised. The NFL isnt a circus nor should it be treated like one.

So now this is about the kids? I thought it was about the NFL.

Do you never advocate changing your name?

I agree with you DCR. But this is the No Fun League we're talking about.

Would you be ok with it if you had a league of nothing but a bunch of players with stupid nickname son their backs? All of a sudden you have guys with: I catch everything, Iceman, Smooth operator etc.. etc... on their backs? And be announced that way during the game?

It would be enough to make me quit watching?

Low blow man, low blow. :)

If the players went through the process of legally changing their name, I'd be more upset with society, and the NFL allowing players to have their legaly name on the back of their jersey.

But that's just me.

I think we're missing the point here. If Reebok printed 10 million Brady jerseys and he goes out and gets hurt (which he did) and they end up getting stuck with 5 million jerseys then Reebok would have been affected by something that's a part of the game (and therefore risk associated with playing players monies associated with their name).

Reebok has to assume the risk normally associated with the game such as injury, poor performance, disgruntled contracts, etc. Having a player change their name is definitely outside the norm and Chad should be held responsible.

Absolutely. There are many people who do it for valid reasons. Childhood pain over the nasty fathers who's name they carry etc.. etc..

Give me a valid reason this guy changed his name other than "he wanted to"

BUNK! Reebok isnt going to lose money on Brady Jerseys. The guy being hurt isnt going to stop the sell of those jerseys one iota. He is young and will be back next year. He is a 3 time SB winning QB and League and SB MVP. People will still buy his jersey a million times over. The injury doesnt change that. bad analogy.

Give me a valid reason why it should be objective as to who changes their name. Everyone should have the right.

Everyone does have the right to at least try. He did it didnt he? So his rights werent supressed. But the NFL also has the right to keep it off the their field if they so choose.

When you go before a judge you should be able to give a valid reason to change your name. I know there have been people that have been turned down in the past for various reasons. Sounds to me like Johnson paid a nice chunk of money to a judge and got it through.

Because I don't like the way that it sounds is all the reason anyone needs.

Keeping his legal name off of the field is begging for discrimination lawsuits.

I think its fantastic. Kudos NFL. The NFL isnt a circus. Chad Johnson is disgrace.

It is a power play, but Chad isn't a disgrace. here's what happened.

He was joking when he said he was Ocho Cinco back in 06 (or was it 07?). He had the name on his jersey before the game, and Carson ripped it off to reveal C. Johnson. It was a gag.

The NFL fined him a lot of $ for it.

So, to get back at the No Fun League, Chad legally changed his name so he could wear the jersey without being fined.

So the NFL counters with this move. It's like a super-duper fine.

There are 2 players in this farce...well, I mean 1 player as in athlete, but 2 players as in actors.

:D

You lost me.

It is his legal name. Outlawing nicknames is one thing, outlawing someone's legal name, 'because they don't like how it sounds' or whatever excuse they want to use is discrimination.

Bunk? Use your common sense here; pick another player besides Brady who if hurt would affect their stature among fans; I only used his name as he was mentioned in another post.

I'll clarify so in your fit to be right you'll understand; Reebok has to assume the normal risk of being a part of the NFL as it relates to jersey sales. What Ocho Cinco is doing is not a part of that normalcy; hence he should be held responsible.

When a player retires early or get's traded...what do they do with the extra jersey's?

They don't make the player buy them back.

I dont need to be right. Your example was bunk. But beyond that I agree with you.

How many retired players jerseys do you see in the stands? Nuff said on that.

Also make up your mind. You just said bingo to redrob and now you dont think he should pay. Which is it?

LOL...you need to slow down and re-read the posts. Or you can just continue to spew nonsense.

I vote for #2, it's more fun to read.
