I feel bad for the Blazers. They've been working hard to clean up their image and put an honorable product on the floor. Unfortunately they hit the lottery for a "can't miss" project that, in their gut, most people knew they should have passed on.

yeah, this sounded all too familiar.

all i needed to hear was "exploratory surgery" "nagging knee pain" and the rest was obvious.

this sucks hard for Portland. the most promising Center in YEARS is damaged goods before he steps on the floor.

Time to hit up the Blazer boards and see how many are jumping off cliffs.

And remember, this indirectly affects the Suns! Portland needs to have a better record than ATL, and this doesn't help one bit.

huh? Again, you don't watch college basketball so how exactly are you coming to these conclusions about what the kid was like or the head scratcher of "can't miss project that in their gut most people knew they should have passed on."

seriously, you're starting to sound like another poster on this board, making judgements on thing they're completely unqualified to make comments about.

no they don't - we just need ATL to be in the lotto and that's ALL dependent on the Eastern conference.

Until the Suns win a ring, I can't feel sorry for ANY team that has already won a ring. Granted, I was looking forward to seeing Oden in the NBA, but I can't feel "sorry" for the Blazers....

Portland could end up with another top 5 pick... If Oden can come back strong, I will not feel sorry for them.

i think this team has enough talent to be somewhat respectable.

Roy
Aldrige
Jack
Frye
Webster

that's not a BAD team. just young, and they could very well surprise the nba

That is a bad team. Fortunately enough Atlanta is probably still worse than that.

Very similar to what Amare went through, the way Oden and later the surgeon described it. Good news for Blazers fans is that Oden should be as good as new in a year. Bad news is they have to wait a year. But it's not like they were going to contend this season.

Amare had dominance in the NBA before the surgery though.

This simply puts oden a year behind schedule.

Ring! Ring!

Oden: Hello?

Amare: Oden?

Oden: Yeah?

Amare: Hey, its Black Jesus. Heard you're getting microfracture.

Oden: Yeah.

Amare: Work on your free throws.

Oden: Ok.

I'm sure he already signed a huge deal with Nike. Will he be in a bunch of basketball commercials having never played an NBA game? This guy is definitely heading for most injured player in NBA history.

"Most people knew they should have passed on?"

Not sure how you can back this statement up. Greg Oden was hands down the #1 consensus pick.

Kevin Durant is going to fill up the stat sheet, but you build franchises around Oden.

If you had watched any games in which Oden was healthy, I'm sure your opinion of him would change. He reminds me of David Robinson, only longer.

Eric has said in the past that he doesn't watch college basketball, thus, he has nothing to back that statement up.

Ouch, what a bummer. I know a lot of us got that funny feeling when the term "exploritory surgery" was used. I hope all goes well with his surgery, and hopefully he'll be able to make the recovery like Amare and Kidd have been able to do.

Eric has a point, Oden wasn't drafted because he is the better player. Oden was drafted first because of phrases like

-big men win championships
-can't teach size
etc

Durant was without question the better player and safer pick.

the better player AND the safer pick?! Yeah - that's why he was picked number two, because that makes a lot of sense.

You guys are making it out like Oden was the second coming of the Kandi-man. It's really weird.

That being said, I love Durant and think he's gonna be a star, but I thought a healthy Oden would have been a star as well, on both ends of the court, something that can't be said about KD.

It will slow down the Blazer development, which has to be good news for the Suns. As a former Buckeye, I'm always sorry to see a former player have health issues, but it does not appear to be career ending.

So was it a mistake for the Blazers to take Oden? Unless he turns into the re-incarnation of Bowie, I'd say "no". His combination of size, strength, and athleticism was pretty impressive last season despite playing with only one good hand much of the season.

You don't pass up on players with Oden's size and ability. You just don't.

Man, we should have actually been praying for Atlanta to get the #1 pick this last draft all along. That would have been great for next year's pick AND Oden would be in the eastern conference.
