You heard me right, our o-line needs work.

I was at the practice yesterday with the intent of keeping an eye on the "revamped" offensive line, and even with the caveat that "it's only the second day of real practice", I was still disappointed.

Granted, things are good on the left side with Velhdeer and Iupati, they look to "be clicking" playing next to one another. However, Iupati had problems with his pass blocking. He should improve as he gets more acclimated to our scheme.

Cooper is playing better than he was at the same point last year, but his technique is in serious need of improvement. Coop should get better as camp goes on, as he adjusts to life on the right side, but he and Massie aren't just on different pages, I'd say they're reading different books. From what I could saw, it would seem that Cooper has a better grasp of where he should be than Massie. Massie looked lost at times, and got overwhelmed at other times. Not a good sign, in my book, from a guy in his 4th year. Humphries didn't practice, I can only hope that he's good enough to unseat Massie.

Needlless to say, I'm officially off of the Massie bandwagon.

This leads me to my biggest concern...center! AQ Shipley and Ted Larsen were regularly bullied as neither could consistently hold their ground against either first or second team defensive lineups. They may have the mental capacity to play center, and I have no doubt in their work ethics. They're just too small too anchor the middle of the line...Shipley especially! I had to check to see where he was listed, and the Cards website states he's 6'1". That measurement must have been taken with cleats on, standing on a tile floor. He can't be taller than than 5'11". I never thought I'd say this, but if he's healthy we need to bring Sendlein back.

I know it's just the beginning of camp, it's just my two cents worth.

Well, this seems to help validate the Cardinals drafting D.J. Humphries in the first round. So there is that.

I'm with you on the center position. I have no idea what they are thinking. Taking a guy who couldn't make 3rd string on another team and expecting him to start...wtf. They obviously don't value the center position like I do. I would be glad to bring Send back...he was durable...far from great but serviceable. There is no way Ship can go against the Rams for a full game and not get Carson killed.

Ron Wolfley from the Doug & Wolf show is totally in agreement with you on the center position. In this mornings' (Thursday) show, Wolfely said that the starting center position is a weakness. He felt that both Larsen & Shipley would make good backups but were being bull whipped by nose guards in the practices.

On today's official Cardinals site there is a video of the OL blocking drills. If I remember correctly Iupati got beat on at least go-round and Shipley was run over by Ta'Amu. I'd call it a pancake. I'd agree that either the OL is a concern or that we are very strong on the DL.

I think it might be safe to say that the center position isn't the only cause for concern. Toss is RB, WR, TE and LB positions...

MJ just tweeted that the Cardinals are going to simplify their pass protection by switching to a slide step zone.

the two biggest head scratchers of the off-season for me was how we addressed the C position, going with cast-offs and completely ignoring a relatively balmy RB FA market to depend on Ellington, who's got injury concerns and putting all our eggs into the AP basket. We had the cash and there were A LOT of good to even great RBs on the market that we didn't even sniff. Hope those decisions don't come back to bite us in the ass.

Well we all know that BirdMan is to blame for most of that.

Not that it will happen but I would like to see Cooper go to Center and Evan Mathis at RG. I agree that so far I don't like what we have at center. We should have signed Stephen Wisnewski when we had the chance.

The name that I would have liked to have seen this past offseason

Stefen Wisniewski

He signed a 1 yer deal worth a total of 2.5M with Jax

It seemed like such a no brainer given his experience with Palmer, it was a need at C and Keim loves 1 year deals. There had to be something we didn't know about.

It's a TC/PS axiom, that the defense is always ahead of the offense, early on. It will take time for the OL to get its act together, so we'll have to see if there is improvement as the PS evolves. Way too early to panic.
