Salvation arrives today in the form of POSSIBLE BLOWING DUST IN THE PM!!!

Welcome in the 2007 Monsoon Season...

I hope and pray that it's a doozy...especially if it's the last one I experience.

All this means to me is that I am going to have to call in cleaners to wipe down all my countertops and cabinets and to sweep the floors in my houses. :(

Not so fast

Welcome in the 2007 Monsoon Season...

Dew point's only at .43 right now. It's not a season until we have three straight days of .55 or higher.

Doubt we'll have enough moisture this weekend to bring it on, but the tropical jet looks to be in place now if the Gulf continues to stay as warm as it is. Cooler Pacific temperatures + warm Gulf usually means more hurricanes and a late monsoon for us.

The second week of July is usually when we start seeing that monsoonal flow crank up. It's there. Just not much moisture. Pacific's not going to send us any this summer, I don't think.

Overrated. It is the only time of year that we can "count" on getting rain. When you add wet stuff falling from the sky, you'd might as well stay off of the road. No one in AZ can drive when it is raining outside. A huge pet peeve of mine.

Yeah, I know all that, but they have t-storms all in the forecast for the coming week, so i thought they expected the dew point to jump up here in the next day or two.

I don't leave town again until the 21st so you know we won't have a major storm until at least then. :D

The water that fills up our reservoirs is supposed to become between late January and mid-April, but we've been practically bone dry the last couple of years.

1. Since this is Phoenix nobody is used to driving in the rain so most people fall into one of two catagories. Too fast or too slow.

2. There will be rain forcast every day but don't fall for it. Rain in Az is a short downpour with the exception of a solid 3 days of rain but nobody know what 3 days.

3. Its going to get humid. You know how everyone says "but its a dry heat" just before getting pummled by people tired of hearing that phrase? Well, you won't hear that for the next month or so.

4. Checker and Auto Zone are going to be sold out of the windshield wiper blades that you need.

Well ... I think the chance for rain is probably minimal, maybe 20 percent from what I've seen. But at least the upper air moisture is being pushed through by the low pressure front, so you could be right about the start of the monsoon. I suspect that low pressure will at least bring us a few good dust storms.

If we could stave off any serious high pressure fronts for the next week, maybe it will kick start that strong Gulf flow. Cross your fingers!

You forgot to mention the most irritating part: It will often rain just enough after a dust storm for the dust to stick to your car and dry real fast.

Don't try to drive through a road that has been blocked off due to surface flooding. Common sense (that too many people each year don't have). You'll see how many ********* there are that do it this summer.

No better advice has ever been given on this board. Truly.

agreed - i love the idiot law where if you drive into a street that is flooded, despite the sign that says "do not drive when flooded" and you get stuck - then you get to bear the expense of the city getting you unstuck

Yeah....I don't know how the car washes make any money. And the Haboob, I think. Anyway they are giant rolling walls of dust that blow thru ALL of Phoenix. Which leads you to our version of white outs....Brown outs are when so much dust and dirt get kicked up into the air that you can't see 20 feet in front of you. Pull off to the side of the road. Turn off your lights and take your foot off the brake.

Maybe not...

Well at least it looks like the season has started. Unfortunately, it seems like sprawl has seriously dented the monsoons in Phoenix as well. I used to watch the weather radar all afternoon praying for storms, but over the last few years they just seem to break up as they get near the 101. Fountain Hills, New River, Carefree, etc. get rain all the time while Phx. will get like two storms. Frustrating.

The best is Flagstaff. It rains almost everyday, and the lightning and thunder is awesome.

I love Flag, and you are right about the city sprawl...it's ruined one of the best reasons to live here in the summer.
