I got a NWS meteorologist to use the term 'Olbinski' today when speaking to another meteorologist. Meteorology being somewhat of a slang-based business, the other meteorologist didn't question the term. I think it may stick there.

Now on to the Weather Channel. Mike, remember Tim from azcentral? That's where he works. ;)

I dont think I remember Tim...wish I did :)

If you can get Olbinski coined as that, you will be my forever hero :)

They are saying the wind gusts could get to 65 mph tomorrow. Also, the mountains will see hurricane force winds. :shocker:

We've gotten over a foot in town and it's still coming down about 2" per hour. Supposed to snow another 2' the next day or so. No wind though.

Have had gusts up to 32mph at my house so far, and it's going to get worse...plus I'm in the middle of trees and houses, so there are some strong winds!

If anyone sees a wash or knows of a river running wild, let me know!!!

Great information too, I meant to write you back! I searched Google maps and saw all the washes...I had actually looked at Dynamite road right before your PM about driving on it, so cool!

I just called SRP and they said definitely around 3pm today they are releasing water from the Granite Reef Dam...I'm totally going to have to go check that out.

I love this!

They just did the "Beep-beep-beep" on the radio to say that Cave Creek is under a flood warning. You're out there looking for swift water and I'm thinking I'm not even leaving my house to walk to the mail box.

Well, it's awesome, but maybe I'll end up a statistic today :)

I think I'm going up to Gilbert Road and the Salt River around 3pm or so. They are releasing water at 3pm from Granite Reef Dam, so there could be some flowing water soon.

Then I may head to Fort McDowell and see what's up with the Aqua Fria and drive up north a bit to see the washes.

Should be hella fun!

It's now reached 3.5 inches total this week, and getting some real gusty wind.

I see there are a couple tornado vortex signatures in the East valley.

Tornado watch in Pima County until 10:00PM. Winds can reach over 65 mph after 2:00AM. Also, they are saying we can have an inch to two inches of snow by Saturday morning. This is one crazy week.

NexRad on Wunderground has one storm measured at 109 knots. I believe that's around 120-125 mph. They've had a couple running at 70-80 knots, and a bunch at 40-60 knots.
I make no assertions about their accuracy.

This much rain and these kinds of gusts will likely knock down a bunch of trees and cacti. (I've got two big trees and one saguaro that could certainly be at risk.)

I live about 7 miles or so due north of the 101 & Scottsdale Rd. About 12 mins ago, I thought I was about to lose every window in my house! If that wasn't a Tornado that just went thru, it was easily the most hellacious weather situation I have ever sat thru. HOLY COW!!! The entire house shook and several of our large windows severely bowed! That was unbelievable!!!!! Glad to still be typing here... Whew...

Thats right about the time I saw the coupling over that area...very possible that you had a tornado within a half mile of you. Anywhere inside of there would see extreme winds. Will be interesting to see tomorrow if the NWS says we had any Tornadoes or not.

Glad you are safe. Still no wind or thunder here, must be completely local pockets of turbulence.

I just pulled up the radar on weather underground and man, that bright red line that went thru... I've never seen anything like that here in AZ. We used to get those type of well-defined squal-lines back east pretty often, particularly in the Spring and Fall when there were severe clashes of different air masses. But never in AZ... Wow.... That was simply amazing. Took a brief stroll down my driveway and there are several Mesquites knocked over. Seen that before though during Monsoons.
Still can't believe we didn't lose any windows. My dog is still shaking...

We got the red line right after Scottsdale in Mesa and it was insane. It only lasted about 10 minutes but wow. I have never seen anything like it in my life.

Interesting -- between 8:30 and 9, I'd estimate, it was extremely windy, and I suddenly got the most incredible head/earache - felt like someone was high-force sucking my brain out my left ear; it faded out over about 3-4 minutes and was gone. My place is pretty close to you, 82 -- wonder if it was an abrupt barometric pressure change?

Tornado watch has been continued until 1:00AM. The wind is gusting over 45-50 mph and when the cold front hits early morning, the wind will kick up to 65+.

I hope everyone's homes are doing well. Neighbor's tree was uprooted early but luckily no damage.

I'm leaving work now. Got here before sunrise this morning. I'm ripe, thinner, tired, and wondering if my PT Cruiser needs an outboard motor.
