Respond like what? What the hell are you talking about? He posted that he EXPECTED posts back that were contrary to his own opinion--that's what happened. I NEVER once said he was an idiot, didn't know what he's talking about, etc. You and I have been through that as well. If that's the way he took it (or you in the past), and I know it sounds cold, but I don't care. If you want to read a damn message board and start crying that I'm demeaning you or whatever, go ahead. Just know that that has never been my intention.

What I'm tired of, is the complaining and whining of certain people that can't handle a DISCUSSION. Because this is just a message board, that's all it is, but then some people come on and make a big freaking deal about it and think I'm yelling, when in fact I'm just typing.

I'm passionate about movies--sue me. It's my work, it's what I went to school for--it's what I DO. You don't see me ragging on whatever it is YOU do, do you?

I'm just sick and ******* tired of apologizing for myself all because you guys can't handle a little bit of an opposite opinion. Lecture me all you want, but I am sick and tired of it.

I wrote a legible and IMO intelligent response that he returned with the sarcasm and complaining that I always get to my posts. Why? I never invite sarcastic comments and complaining about how I'm demeaning people. I NEVER call people names. NEVER.

Maybe this board WOULD be a better place if I just didn't post anymore. I mean, then EVERYONE would agree about movies I guess. Kinda defeats the purpose of a message board, don't you think? Everyone has different insights to different things, especially movies. Yet, I'm the one who gets attacked, and I'M the one everyone thinks is the mean, spiteful one, when simply, I post an opinion that is contrary to many others, and those people simply can't handle it and decide to make me out as an attacker.

Easy there, Chap. I was just making a personal observation, and not personally getting huffy. Just observing that though you hold superb movie knowledge, when you don't agree with people, you make it sound as if there IS no contrary position. That's all. People could misread it, sure, and think you're being arrogant when you're not. I'm sure I've done it before too, but I was merely pointing out an observation.

Now, I think if you'd post things as your opinion, it would help a lot. Lots of things you say come across as 'you're right, and there is no dissenting opinion'. I get that it comes from your knowledge, and I'm cool with that. Heck, I even come across that way sometimes too, but I try my best not too.

Calm down, man. I'm sure the others (myself included) can try and be a little more civil as well and maybe, just maybe, we can all just get along. Just try to come across as more opinionated and less 'end-all be-all right', and it'll be all hunky dory

You know, maybe I took your post as more "uppity" than it was intended to be. But, I also don't feel like I need to go to bat for my opinion of the movies.

Yes, Chaplin, I can "handle it," (although reading a message boards is hardly a test of "handling it"). But, I don't see any reason why I should have to when it comes to stating an opinion of a film.

I'm going to chose not to get into long debates on the Movie Zone message board.

You've got to be kidding me.

Viewpoint, counterpoint, viewpoint. That's how a discussion works. If you don't want to participate in a discussion, that's definitely your decision. But that's all it was. Maybe you shouldn't post something on a message board if you don't want a response.

I mean, did you not want a response, or did you?

Chap, I have to agree here. I don't want you to get upset and leave the board, but sometimes, and I know I've told this to you before, your opinion comes across as "fact", and it's hard to not get "huffy" about it.

There is no reason for you to get mad and leave, it's just an observation. I think of you as a friend, and I hope you don't see this as a rip, but something that maybe can help us all get along better.

Dude, chill man. Mike and I aren't mad at you, Chap. We're just pointing something out. Constructive criticism. Lord knows I need it too! :)

I knew you'd take it that way. We're not being mean, we're just letting you know how you come across sometimes.

I've had this same discussion with you before Michael...so if Stout mentions it too, maybe it's something to think about.

I don't want you going anywhere, I love having you on this board, being the movie guy you are.

****SPOILERS*****

Just wanted to say this:

If I am Sam Wise and I see Frodo taking his sweet merry time with dropping the ring.....I tackle him and take him over the edge....if I have to die, so be it.

Otherwise, brilliant movie...one of the best I have ever seen.

Me too on the length of the ring drop!!

Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf, and the Elves were going "across the sea" to the Undying lands - kind of the Middle Earth heaven, were there is no war, sickness, worries, etc.

In the book, Sam (since he was a ring-bearer as well) goes across the sea before he dies.

Sam was the hero of the whole thing....he carried Frodo's fat ass up the mountain.

He just wanted to stay home and make little hobbits with his fine wife :)

THey sailed from the Grey Havens over the Sundering Seas to the West, where they will have everlasting peace. Only the elves had gone over the seas to the better place, but the ringbearers have been given the reward for the burden they had borne.

SPOILER!

SPOILER

SPOILER

SPOILER

Besides the excision of Saruman and the Scouring of the Shire, I have a nitpick with how Shelob was depicted - In the book she's a swollen, pustulent horror - not the tarantula as the movie shows.
Ok - also - the sheer terror of Cirith Ungol didn't come through and Mordor is not as small as the movie made it.
I would have liked the 1/2 minute it would have taken to show the Mouth of Sauron and his dissing of the good guys....
Still very entertaining and you BET I'll be looking to see the DVD...

Planning a LOTR marathon this weekend with my older son. The wife and 2 younger ones are gone for the weekend, so we've got 10+ hours of sitting on the couch and eating too much planned.

We did this 2 years ago and had a blast. I can't flippin wait.

Old thread resurrected...

I just finished extended number 1 of a marathon I’m doing today (my 5-year-old is with his mother). Amazing, still as good today as it was 19 years ago. Yes, it has been 19 YEARS since Fellowship was released. The movie has aged incredibly well and can’t wait to show this to my son when he is old enough.

So many great set pieces and acting moments. Still one of the best redemption scenes in movie history when Boromir dies protecting Merry and Pippin. The wizard fight between Gandalf and Saruman was very well done as well. And of course, the cave troll, the Nazgul, and the Balrog.
Fantastic!

Did you get the new UHDs of the movies? I just rewatched them a couple weeks ago when they came out. The release made the movies even better. The new Atmos audio track was amazing on them. The Balrog was WOW with HDR and the new sound track.

No not yet. I run things off of a server since I don’t have a traditional 4K player. My internet isn’t the best at streaming 4K, and my smart tv app barely works to show much of anything. I’m just running high bitrate h264 1080p.

Ah, ok. You'll love it when you do. I rip and stream everything locally on my NAS. It works out great for quality and ease of use.

If I had a NAS, I'd be in a much better position. That essentially is my next tech purchase with my server.

FYI, depending on what you're doing the NAS can be your server. I have a Synology 1819+ and it has enough horsepower that I run my Emby server plus a couple other things directly on it. I retired the old Mac mini that I had running as a server when I got it. From the way you said it I'm not sure if the server is part of your next purchase too or if you already have one.

That’s been a thought I’ve had, but for the most part my actual desktop I use for the server has worked well and gives me a lot of different options. Including having 4 externals and 2 internal HDDs for content.
