I don't have the pressure numbers.
I do (it’s 39), but since players play different number of snaps, I will use the pressure rate percentage. Last season, Stewart’s was 9.4%. For comparison, James Pearce’s was 21.3%, Abdul Carter’s was 18.5%, and Donovan Ezeiruaku’s was 18.2%. I would be highly excited if Stewart ended up with the Cards, but there is no way to hide the fact that he is mostly about traits at this point.

Has there been a first round player that unproductive in college but turned it around in the NFL?

Agreed. They had Garrett side by side as an athletic comparison for Stewart.
But the production...

And that's why Stewart won't go 1 overall. lol. Like I said, Odafe Oweh is an example of a player with zero sacks his last year in college and was able to get 10 sacks in 2024.

Good info. I have very little notion of where many of these prospects are supposed to go. I am generally leery of non-productive college players, because 9 times out of 10 they become non-productive NFL players. If he was already projected for the first round, then that's fine. You watch, though; he'll suddenly go top 10.
Maybe. Just depends where he falls on the EDGE board. If a team like the Jets prefer large EDGE players, they probably value Mykel Williams and Shemar Stewart over MIke Green and Jalon Walker. If Stewart's combine performance elevates him over Williams because Williams didn't do much, does it really matter if they pick 7?

Dude like that is tempting. If he has instincts and closing speed he will have a long illustrious career... great stats for his size.

Thinking on him and Rabbit as the safety tandem of the future....

It's just another combine number. Very little--not nothing, but very little--should really change about how you view a player after the combine. Medical, some of the drills, etc, sure, those are important. The rest? Useless. Just white noise to confuse the less savvy GMs and scouts.
If you look at the Rams drafts, they typical seem to not care at all for RAS. Kyren Williams was pitiful on RAS and so were a number of their good young players. They don't even attend the Senior Bowl and only put stock in actual game tape.

More and more, I am too. There are just so many examples of guys jumping up because of combine numbers never panning out.

He was injured his final year. The year before (only year he played a full season) he had 5 sacks.
Had 5 sacks for his first 3 years in the NFL and then as you said, 10 this year.
He was the 31st pick in round 1.

Stewart is going to get drafted very high purely on athletic traits and potential vs production.
To your point, he is not going #1 overall. My point - I don't want to draft him in round one at all.

The draft is always about traits there are too many variables that go into production that are outside of talent.

You just used one example out of how many? Verse, Fiske, Young, etc, all have posted good/respectable RAS & those are the first 3 that I remember instantly. Hell, look at Aaron Donald’s RAS. If he was a poor athlete/had a poor RAS, he wouldn’t be looked at as arguably the greatest defensive player of all time.

RAS isn’t the end-all, be-all. Game-tape clearly matters, but to act like RAS doesn’t matter is just foolish. Gotta get out of this old-school mindset.

RAS? Eh, if it's a tie breaker between players you are considering, fine, I guess? To take a guy because of his RAS score? Silly. It's one of many stats and many other stats matter more.

To take a guy because of his RAS score?
Here’s the thing

Nobody is doing that dude. Nobody is taking a guy *just because* of his RAS score. Film & is the guy coachable still matters the most at the end of the day. However, athleticism is still a big factor in sports. Nobody wants a team full of poor athletes.

I'm not disagreeing with RAS at all...just pointing out the Rams don't care about it all. Check out Nacua's RAS. Check out the Miami safety they drafted. Quite a few guys with low RAS scores. My point is that game tape should still trump RAS.

I’m thinking Monti’s strategy will be accumulating draft picks early and often.

I wouldn’t be surprised in two moves backwards in the first round if the opportunity presents itself.

I’m of the opinion I would like a draft haul akin to last year given enough spots available.

Maybe he doesn't become a HoF EDGE like Garrett but at 16, if he just ends up being a 10-12 sack 267 lb monster outside, how is that bad?
There have sadly been great athletes who never quite blossomed into impact players. So much has to do with little things, like taking the best angles. Sensing when to switch from an outside to an inside move can be critical. I’ve been told so often that the difference between a star and an ordinary player is found in small details. I think that’s why scouts tell me college sacks are the biggest factor in predicting NFL success. I understand what your saying but he could also only be a 6 sack player. At this point he’s just potential.

No way I take Stewart at number 16. The ceiling may be Myles Garrett, but the floor is Tyree Wilson. Just too much risk at number 16. Assuming that he is going to get 10-12 sacks in the NFL is a long way from his yearly average of 1 and half sacks in college.

Somebody is going to "roll the dice" on him in the first round, but to me he's a second round guy. Again, too much risk for the first round.
I think someone gambles in round 1. If it’s the Cards I hope they trade down first.

Maybe it is a huge projection based on his college production, but seeing Oweh get 10 sacks this past season after having 0 his last year at Penn St eases the concern a bit for me.
That happens but more often guys who don’t make sacks in college don’t make them in the NFL.
